St. John's walk-ons jump through hoops

I read on twitter last night that Samuel- scaly James made the team. 6'8 kid from Longwood high school near me on the island. I watched Longwood play twice last year and didn't see this kid play at all. Good to know that we are at least getting some size on the team :)

Can you dig and see why he didn't play? Maybe injury or academics?

Will do.. I have never seen him and he very well could be a pretty good player.. but when a 6'8 kid plays anywhere in Suffolk county people tend to talk about it. This is the first i am hearing about him . I wonder if Darcy has the school right?? I will try and find out more today. :)

Not expecting the world. Just serviceable.

Agreed.

Sam Sealy is the kids name . I believe Kieran Darcy had his name wrong. He didn't play when i watched Longwood but a buddy of mine who watches alot of Longwood games told me that he is very raw but every bit of 6'8 and super skinny. Sounds like an interesting find.

If he makes the team and does anything, his story has NCAA Tourney feature package written all over it. Are you kidding me! Busted out of Harlem, practicing his jump shot on makeshift courts on military bases to the rare air of MSG!

This guy makes the team, he is my all-time favorite walk-on, Jon Schiemen. Who I was always like, why the hell is this guy at St. Johns he could be a king at like Brandeis or something.

Perhaps he is not a freshman and was not in high school last year?

He is a true freshmen.

What are the odds the walkons get their names on their back this year? Or we still penny pinching there? ;)

Hey moose-

I see you have the Lav bobble-head as your picture-- did you see him get his head chopped off on Boomer and Carton today? Carton knocked little Stevie off his desk and his head fell off....

Today? I thought that happened when they first got the bobble last year?

Damn Carton :woohoo:

I also yelled at someone at work last week to touching my Lavin bobblehead ;)

Thankfully they weren't. If the UCLA fan I work with touched him it would be war.

Let's not kid ourselves here, even preferred walk ons almost never get into game situations unless a team has serious foul trouble. I think we will add 6 walk ons bringing the team to 13 players. If Amir and Norvel return in December that would bring us to 15 players.

It looks like 3 will be guards and 3 will be forwards. From what I have heard two of these kids are talented players that will add quality to the practice sessions but do not look for the second coming of Phil Misserre!

Wonder how the talent evaluators distinguish between the 4277 and the 4276 ranked player?

How did Anakwenze and Bashen "regularly attend games last year" if one is a "senior transfer" and the other is a freshmen?
