St. John's to Leave Nike?

I'll leave most of the critiquing of color schemes etc. to those who actually have a decent eye for this type stuff, but I do need to ask whether it's possible that a uniform could be so hideous that it would be the sole reason for a kid not committing.

That experiment would be Oregon and no they didn't stop getting commits.

Listen guys, some will like the new ones, some won't. It will never be 100%. If we win games I don't care if Victoria's Secret makes our jerseys. Trust me though, new uniforms experimenting with radical designs is fun for the players. Countless amounts of them have tweeted pictures excited about "new gear!" or "sick new jerseys!". It's part of the basketball/urban street culture to look fresh when you ball. Nike made us look like a HS team. At least UA is throwing different colors out there and totally redesigning our shorts. I think the shorts are a bit too busy and all those color lines should be more by the hip/waist area rather than in the middle. But one thing is not debatable...UA so far has shown far more creativity and effort than Nike and you have to love that.

PS...word is that our UA gear goes on sale "soon" to public for purchase, so get those wallets ready >-)

What UA gear Joe? I doubt they will be selling these Euro jerseys. As for regular UA gear we still haven't rebranded so its just our logo with UA instead of the swoosh.

Nope, not the Europe jerseys...or any jerseys for that matter...yet. From what I understand it's the t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. that kind of thing that will be on sale soon. Nothing radical as you said we haven't changed logos or anything yet, but the stuff is still fresh enough looking to pick up a shirt or sweatshirt. Their sweatshirts are very warm I've had one for 5 years...the material really holds the heat in well for those who aren't familiar with UA.

Thanks for clarifying for everyone.
I agree I have worn UA for years. Love the quality compared to Nike and Adidas who do a lot of sub-manufacturing.

*Also heard the throwback looking jersey we will have during the year looks really sweet.

Moose any idea from what era the throwbacks will be? thanks

I'm sure this has nothing to do with Under Armour or a possible new nickname and he probably just got it on ebay, but Jakarr is wearing an SJU Redmen hat in this pic. Pretty cool.

Noticed there are no names on the black of the Euro jerseys.
Hope this isnt the case going forward during the season.

That is a sweet hat that Jakarr is rocking! I would love to get that hat...Any idea where he got it or somewhere online that I could buy it? I couldn't find it on ebay

It's definitely a 20-year-old hat, so I wish you good luck.

Not sure if it's a sign of what the UA basketball uniforms will look like, but I noticed that the soccer team now has black & white trim. Then again, our soccer team wears red as the home uniform not white so who knows. Here are some pics (big win by the soccer FYI).

Doubtful...our baseball uniforms have the NYC skyline inside the ST.JOHN'S logo and on the back in the numbers but our basketball team has nothing like that. Our lax team has the skyline on our helmets but not on our basketball jersey. I think each sport tweaks differently.

True, but you are referring to uniforms pre UA. I don't think we've seen this year's baseball or lax uniforms yet, so those may also undergo changes.

Not totally ruling it out, who knows? But another strike against that idea IMO is the fact that the soccer jerseys look EXACTLY the same as our old Nike basketball jerseys. UA has shown indications they want to go in a fresh direction so I doubt the jerseys will be nearly identical to the old Nike ones last year.

Saw these tweets from the Basketball Diary:

@TheBBallDiary: Inevitable Under Armour will lace St John's University up with their Spawn Anatomix in new colorways.

@TheBBallDiary: The new color blue, navy blue in addition to tradition red & white for St John's University & Under Armour is a good look. New sales stream.

@TheBBallDiary: @Sports_talk91 Europe tour outfit - temporary. New tweaks coming. Shorts will have NYC skylines. Assuming around October.

Like the skyline idea just hope they don't try to do too much.

Woo! I remember saying they should incorporate it. I guess they finally realized they should embrace it. I'm excited for a fresh look. Let's hope the team is ready for a fresh start so we can go back to the tourney.

6-year deal with UA (been stated already)

@darrenrovell: St. John's signs a six-year deal with Under Armour. Will outfit all teams.
