@ChrisRonca: @AdamZagoria St. John's University will officially leave Nike and become an Under Armor school on June 1st.

I do not know what kind of sources this guy has...

This has been rumored for a while. Dave of JJ hinted at it probably 4 weeks ago and all but confirmed it shortly thereafter.

Great move. Sucks being the Nike stepchild.

With the NYC marketing, it'll be great to see our jerseys, alternates and gear gain more exposure.

My question is are we getting a totally new design, should be interesting if we are.

Have you seen any cookie cutter UA designs?
I'll bet that the designs will be new. Hopefully not something over the top though.

Temple and BC are Under Armour schools, and their unis are pretty standard.
But I know what you mean, I expect they'll give us something that catches the eye and might take some getting used to.

Now it makes perfect sense why nike has only 1 st johns jersey for sale.

Hopefully this will bring more variety in colors, styles (pressed, stitched) and numbers that are available for purchase.

I know I am getting old, but I don't want a variety of colors. I want the classic white and red iniforms. If they want to add some gray trim, that's fine, but nothing that looks like a three year old art project. Please.

I'm sure this makes a lot of sense for the school, and Under Armour is definitely a growing part of the future in terms of team/school sponsorship.

But for the time being, despite their individual consumer stuff being awesome, their team stuff seems pretty gimmicky/unimpressive. I've seen Maryland and USF in particular in stuff that is just hideous.

Nike is Nike, and while I agree it will be nice to be a headliner for a new brand by comparison, Nike's gear (especially team gear) is second to none. Under Lavin we also seemed to be getting more attention from them as well. It also opened the door players to have access to all of Nike's variety/history. Sir Dom and Jakarr wore 90's Jordans at times this year, just like Hardy and Brownlee did in 10-11. I don't know how much this stuff matters, but seeing how into sneakers (especially Jordans) a lot of young hoopsters are, it can't hurt.

It's also nice being associated with the Nike sponsored schools (Kentucky, Carolina, Duke, Cuse) or even Adidas (Louisville, Kansas) as opposed to Maryland, USF, Temple, and BC. Although clearly Under Armour has designs on changing this landscape in the years to come, and hopefully we can be a part of that.

Like I said I'm sure this is a great opportunity for the school and athletic program (hence why they took it), and will probably look even better a few years down the line. I just hope the unis aren't gross!

Dollars and cents.

And would you rather be the little fish in the big pond that nobody cares about. Or the big fish in the little pond?

As for looks, look at what the other schools wear on the bball court. NOT the football field editions.

Totally understood and agreed. That's what I was referring to when I said I'm sure it made sense for the school and being a headliner for the brand's team sponsorship.

Unfortunately, in terms of looks, I was looking at the hoops uniforms. Those board shorts USF wore for the BET were horrible. Maryland's race car unis were similarly awful. These are nickel dimers though, as they're just uniforms, Under Armour has also done some great ones (Maryland's and BC's classics are very sharp), and Nike/Adidas have their strikeouts as well (Nike far less so). Those camo unis Adidas rolled out this March were atrocious.

I'd be ok with us wearing something similar to get Louisville's results though!

Why stick with Nike and be treated like stepchildren? We had one new alternate gray uni since the blacks in how many years now? These other schools have multiple alternates and new gear for postseason tourneys.

I think Nike gave us one set of sneakers this year (I forget which game it was).

We have done more promoting for Nike than they have for us with the staff being decked out in AF1s for years now. And we still can't find any gear to purchase without having to look under a rock.

I welcome the change. Traditionalists may not like it but I'm sure the players will as it's like getting a new toy or present.

Look at how many schools have been dropping Adidas recently. I'd welcome a stay with Nike if we were treated like UNC. But we're not.

Plus the UA move may give us more access to players in their AAU sponsored tourneys than we had before.

I actually did this last night. I went in expecting to find a whole world of crazy, but many of the b'ball unis have a pretty traditional feel to them (with a few interesting wrinkles – i.e. Maryland's "flannel" uni). If there was a disappointment, it was that much of the fan gear had a very "template" feel to it.

I'm a big Nike fan for many reasons, but college hoops is business. If UA is upping the stakes and wanting to pump STJ and the new Big East, it's worth seeing where they take us.
