St. John's-Notre Dame Game Thread.

after a win like this i don't know how the bigs out there could not want on this band wagon...the supporting cast of players in the 1-3 spots is clearly top notch...with branch/harrison/greene we will have one of the best backcourts in the ncaa moving forward

And with Mo, Amir and Sir Dom we will have one of the best group of forwards in the ncaa moving forward, all we need is a true post that can run with this group.
Calling Christopher Obekpa.

sometimes i want to punch dicky v...just mentioned our win and says "if those young kids return they are gonna have a special year next year." Why not just say they ARE gonna have a geat year next year.

because of all the rumors just like Lavin had to dispel. That is all basketball is  a bunch of dumb rumors. However that being said, what if somebody gets in Harkless' head.
Otherwise great win.

"I thought their defense really bothered us, it sped us up," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "We had some great looks but we didn't make enough of them. You're going to have to make some more jump shots over the top of that zone to escape here today."

Our defense was the best i've seen it this year although fatigue took its toll in the last couple of minutes.

Yes, we were closing out on shooters very aggressively - best yet IMO

What surprised me about the game was that ND kept heaving up 3's even though they weren't falling. I know they have excellent spot up shooters who are not inclined to turning down good looks, but if you asked me about their biggest edge coming into the game, I would have said it was Cooley inside and on the glass (as well as three's against the zone, because we can't adjust and switch to man with only 6 players). Thought they should have went to him more (we saw the damage that a guy like Martin did, who is more of an inside-out player). If ND wants to live an die by the three, I can certainly see them winning a few games in the tourney where the shots are falling. But if not, they could be a first round upset, if today's game was any indication as to their overall style of play.

Yesterday was without a doubt the most exciting and best game I've seen all year. The crowd was rally behind our guys and that especially was so nice to see.

Way to go guys! You made us all proud!

We are a much more athletic team than ND. Their guards were basically invisible in this game . the vast majority of their points were scored from standing jump shots or shots from under the basket . If you press them they cannot play their usual game . I cant see them going anywhere in the tournament .

A great win for the Johnnies today.......the way these kids pull together you just have to love them

Yes, but they're gonna give me a heart attack with these endings.

Love it that Amir is emerging as a third scorer. He's made amazing progress since joining the team. Where would we be without him.

Give him the game ball

Amir is looking more like a quicker Ed Obannon every game. I didn't think he could shoot well enough to say that but there you go. I think the tipoff on that was when he started making free throws. He was bending rims early on but he really came around in that dept. Pointer is coming around too and his defense is NBA quality right now. A super athlete who has a chance down the road. I'm amazed that several bigs are passing on playing with these guys. I also hope Steve ditches the Lamar Cranston act as the season winds down. He doesn't have to coach but he needs to be seen with his team.

The zone achieved what is was designed to do, which is to eliminate the entry pass into the post and force the opponent to take contested 3's
