I'm not getting to high until we get a few LOI's
Nearing a powerhouse recruiting means nothing, Lavin has to seal the deal.

Scramble mode = "I didn't know we were recruiting those kids"
Also, we have more 2015 commitments than Kansas right now. I'm sure Bill Self is scrambling. I too would like to get kids signed in the Fall but for whatever reason, Lavin always seems to get them late in the year. I don't think he pressures kids to commit early.
Oh my god, just stop.
I've posted in freeman, lovett, the greek, and the Italians threads... how can you say u didn't know we were recruiting them.
and Kansas is in the running for 6 of the top 10 players in the country, and they already have a likely mcdonald's all American signed.
Dink, the Europeans are reaches, and people are already counting on them being here.
I would be fine with Freeman and lovett if they were surrounded with better talent.
I will say this, the entire equation changes if obekph and jordan return. I'm not convinced they will, but then adding Sampson and lovett and freeman, gives us decent talent. Lot of its though
Tell us why the Europeans are reaches....
This article didn't mention anything we didn't already know.
should we be surprised that the staff is recruiting hard now that their jobs are on the line?
And the notion that this could be a "powerhouse class" is pure folly.
We are merely still involved with these players. Theres no indication we lead for any of them besides Freeman and maybe Lovett. A juco and an unranked pg.
The foreigners are anybody's guess, and without a pg we're lucky Diallo hasn't dropped us from his list yet.
We don't all of a sudden have a great recruiting class on our hands. We're in scramble mode. Of course there will be names, but look into whether we have a good chance with them, and ask yourself if they're actually any good.
I have a hard time understanding the disparity between this article and what some posters have claimed now for more than a year and most recently.
How do you guys explain the complaints that Lavin and co. isn't working hard at recruiting? One respected poster PM'd me a few months back and said that he knew that Lavin had stopped recruiting altogether. This article indicates that this could be a banner year for St. John's recruiting.
Paultz, Monte, Avon, someone, anyone. Is our staff recruiting hard or not?
Our staff has been working and to say that Lavin mailed it in is wrong. Whitehead was going with Tiny and once Tiny got the job at Seton Hall, game over. Carrington didn't see himself getting many minutes at St Johns this year and since his mother wanted to see him play, Seton Hall. Some on this board were killing Lavin for getting Amar, who I think will be a good four year player for us. Amar still has a lot of work to do just like most freshmen. However, I can tell you this. After a game earlier in the season at Carnesecca, Amar and Stewart were right back in Taffner putting up shots.
Some are criticizing Lavin for going after Briscoe, then the same people say he does not recruit locally. We almost had Briscoe until Kentucky jumped in the picture. As the article stated, they have been recruiting LoVett for a while. Rico and Freeman's coach stay in contact. Doesn't it show people anything when Sampson commits, when most on this board thought it was a lost cause when Briscoe chose Kentucky. We never stopped recruiting Diallo, and on another thread a poster stated that Phil and Chris were at OSNA this week. I don't think that you all realize how much it means to a recruit when kids from a school that is recruiting him show up on his campus. With Mussina, it appears to be us against him deciding to play professionally.
As for the 2016 class, I state for a fact that Lavin has been in contact with Temple Gibbs and his family at least twice a week. Those of us who go to games have seen Salnave at Carnesecca.
All of the things that I have written above, I have either observed personally or have first hand knowledge about through speaking with the people involved.
What disturbs me about this board is when I read statements like Lavin is leaving to go back to ESPN, if Lavin did not tell you that, why repeat it. Or Lavin has stopped recruiting and has mailed it in. Have you personally spoken to Lavin about what he is doing and what recruits he is going after. I also hate when a reporter or anyone else says "I heard from a source", that is total BS. I remember someone once saying," If you can't tell me the name, I don't want to hear the story".
Our season still has promise and it looks like things are picking up on the recruiting trail. Let's continue to root for the REDMEN and hope for the best.
Any of these kids ready to verbal shortly. This article didn't mention anything we didn't already know.

Just my opinion, but think you will be quite surprised Desco. Btw, Freeman will be first team Juco AA. Before anyone scoffs at that, yes Gift was Juco AA also, but D2 classification. We'll see.

Let's hope you don't have to abstain from the bong for too long
My point is that there are plenty of kids that a coaching staff is involved with that the fans may not know about because the staff is not allowed to talk about potential recruits until they commit (maybe sign---I'm not sure). Some staffs may leak information but it doesn't appear that we do. Whenever we hear about a school being involved with a kid, that info comes from the kid or those around him (including HS and AAU coaches). Many times, a name pops up late on our radar but then you hear that we've been in contact for a couple of years. The reason I get frustrated with stories about our laziness on the recruiting trail is because people say things that aren't true. You don't know what you don't know. That doesn't mean it isn't happening.
Red name me one legitimate recruit(not a walk on or kid no one's ever heard of) who we recruited for a while without anyone knowing about and who popped up late on our radar? I'm getting up there in years so maybe I'm forgetting. Forget about the staff talking about it, these kids and their handlers blab to anyone who will listen.
I'd rather not do it off the top of my head but let me look into it and get back to you.

Oh damn how did you know? Yeah I have a walker and dentures. Oh yeah and I wear my glasses on the bridge of my nose too.
Well wtf I'm 83 so what do you expect B)
Can you name a high major program that has achieved sustained success with 3 star players?
Butler- transitioned from Mid Major conference to the A 10 to the Big East they have 2 4 star recruits playing them.
Xavier had 2 4 star recruits last year.
Wichita State. Not in a high major conference
.
They have 4 star recruits because they succeeded with three star recruits.
Pure BS.

Butler may not have been a high major at the time, but they went to 2 national championship games with: Gordan Hayward (3 star recruit) , Shelvin Mack (3 stars), Ron Norad (3 stars). The only guy they had who was top 100 out of HS was Matt Howard.
I do not espouse Lavin following that same path, though. He is no Brad Stevens.

Speaking of Brad Stevens, he is doing a bang up job in Boston. almost as good as Rick Pitino did there.
