St. John's June Elite Camp

The people caping for Mike Rice have to be delusional as hell. We play in the biggest media market by far, and you want to add this problem? I can see Zach for the post, Zagoria for the times having a field day with this. I've seen SJU basketball and the university on Politico, USToday, ESPN, and sports illustrated for a lot less. We don't need the bad press.

Secondly, could you guys imagine how our rivals would use this during recruiting? Imagine a kid thinking between Seton Hall or SJU, everything else even, Kevin willard has a conversation with the parents and plays the video. Then what? This extends to providence, Nova, Butler, etc.

What he did was heinous but I dont think people are as torn up about it as you say above, especially basketball players and their parents. Would some oppose it? Sure. Would the school be nationally smeared for adding him to the staff? I doubt it

Per RedStormReport.com

Team Melo (MD) players Justin Lewis, Che Evans & Jason Murphy will all take an unofficial to St. John's on June 21st

Of these players which would which would be the one we have the biggest % to sign?

Coach K runs some of the toughest practices in college basketball - without throwing balls and many recruits suffer culture shock compared to high school. Yet players give their left nut to play for him. Bobby Knight never had a problem recruiting "his" type of Hoosier players. Coach Pitino never screwed a blonde on the tablecloth in an Italian restaurant AND never knew his assistant coach was a pimp. Jamie Dixon was not a maniac in practices and during games. Roy Williams never heard of a no-show African Studies course his players got "A's" in.
There are plenty of legendary coaches with a "history". Mike Rice would be an assistant to a "legendary player" who needed a 2nd and 3rd chance in his younger days.
It's the coaches who would bring up his past or have the low class to mention the so-called abuse in practices that a recruit and his parents should worry about.

These are very young elite players who are still growing. By the time Lewis and Evans are seniors they could be 5 star players. We are on them early but it will be a battle against the big boys.

Sometimes I read these posts and just smile. I have been told that Willard has already reached out to Mike Rice. However, Rice feels the situation is better at St. Johns and is hoping to receive an offer from Mullin.

but seriously was coach K ever known to throw a ball at player? Bobby Knight probably threw a few at him.

Sometimes I read these posts and cry. If true I can't wait for our school to be attached to this:

It speaks for itself.

our big men need to develop their hand eye coordination. Get me some rice

Where's it stand now? :p

My high school football coaches could be nasty SOB's. Lots of coaches are in practices. Mike Rice was a bit off the rails at that time, but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world. It won't hurt our rep in the least in my opinion. He deserves a second chance, and has done well at St. Patrick's or whatever it is being called now? The guy lives for ball. I hope we hire him.

Compared to Coach Rice, Franny seems like Perry Como.
Can you imagine Coach Rice and Zach Brown on the practice court together.

I would bet that Rice will get a college job somewhere very soon
Either because a school thinks he deserves a second chance
Or because he is well connected with some of the best young high school talent around
Call me a cynic if you wish, but I think it's a realistic point of view

Mullin "mulling" pros & cons re Rice I sense.

Paultz, I don't think CM is making any decision on his own. I would assume (hope) that Bobby Gempesaw and Anton Goff the AD would need to be involved.

I am sure the Board in some way (via Gempesaw) will be consulted if true.
