Smith Potentially Out for Rest of Regular Season

If Smith could play one game the rest of the regular season even at the level he played against Providence, UCONN and Marquette this would be the one I would choose. Unless I am missing something he isn't going to play. I think that is the frustration and losing to Villanova made everyone feel a little worse.

Now like mattc always says this isn't a must win because on many levels it isn't.

It is a huge game because the difference between winning and losing will likely determine if we can win the regular season title. It doesn't preclude us from winning the Big East Tournament in any meaningful way and likely has little to do with our ultimate performance in the NCAA's.

Not really the point. I think when you publicly call a kid out by name saying they "aren't big east players", it's a personal shot at them that I would avoid. Last season some of our most respected posters intimated the same about Zuby. This year, Kadary.

Glover was a highly recruited freshman. In this NIL era where everyone is a on a one year contract, freshman on top teams may have to sit longer and develop before getting reps.

It's clear that losing two rotation guards puts us at a disadvantage, but what would you expect, a 5 star coming off the bench?

I'll leave it to Rick to decide who does and doesn't belong here. But for now it's unrealistic to expect roster players 10-12 can be plugged in and perform like starters. If they were ready to in the rotation today, they probably would have signed somewhere else.

Everyone who came here did because Rick develops players. I couldn't tell you who will or won't break through, but I also won't be as harsh to intimate they don't belong here.

All good points , Beast

We began to feel the injury issue early on when Brady wasn’t himself . Many here surmised he wasn’t going to be a factor this year .

Little did any of us know , hewas trying to play through his injury all through November and December .

The piece lacking in the Players brought in this year by Pitino and staff was the absence of 3 point shooters.
Rick opted for KR , Scott, Smith to go with Zuby , Wilcher and RJ .

It’s worked out ok so far , despite our being wretched shooting team . Free throws included

And , I think we left a gap by not getting a shooter .
Nova has several, UCONN, Creighton , Marquette and even ,PC with Rahim’s break out game .

Lefty might develop into the sharp shooter we need next year but , he’s still learning the rest of the BE game .

Lastly , if Rick’s plan against Nova was to shoot the 3 on the last possession ,was Wilcher the best option ?

Considering the game he had , maybe Scott instead ?

Or , even RJ ?

The way i see that is maybe Sim was option 2, but if so poorly executed. Kadary appeared to have plenty of space in the paint and didn't even attempt to draw a double team before passing. Once Sim caught the pass, he slipped the defender but gave him enough space to recover and alter Sim's shot.

We've come through again and again this season so not getting a good look Wash

frustrating.

If the last shot was set up for Wilcher to take a 3 with the game in the balance, it was a poor decision .

And , with 8 seconds left why no TO?

Against UCONN a terrific last play was set up after a TO. RJ making a nice 10 footer .

This didn’t happen against Nova . Hence the poor shot and loss to a mediocre team no

One loss in the final seconds on the road in Nova and the board turns to chaos lol

And, why not ? Last week after the wins against Marquette , UCONN, the Media ( yes that Media ) was proclaims us a potential National Contenders .

Most of us , if truthful began to think of that possibility .

We were number 8 or 9 and heading higher as soon as we beat Nova and Creighton

Instead , we stubbed our toe against a very mediocre Villanova team that was trying to give us the game .
Until we decided , no thanks . Just throw up 3 that we won’t defend And , watch us shoot a desperation 3 that had no chance of going in . It wasn’t close !

So , yes , the Dream of a massive resurgence for us , disappeared into the cold , nasty Philadelphia night .
Now , we ate faced with a tough opponent in Creighton that has already beaten us in a cliff hanger

We lose Sunday and we are in danger of descending into the lower middle of the BE with Marquette away and a different UCONN with a heathy McNeeley coming up .

Must win Sunday ? You bet . Don’t think otherwise .

Lol ok

I cringe whenever Vince is put into the game
He generally goes in before Prey
I always wonder why.........

I think it's because CRP doesn't see Prey as a true 5 and Vince only goes in to replace Zuby. Like another poster said Prey is very rarely on the floor with out one of the other two.

I'll add that with Smith out, if Scott got two early fouls before Zuby needed a blow Prey would be the first off the bench.

I would actually give Lefty some run
Nice stroke
Agreed. Rick has limited his time so I can assume he is not satisfied with his defense. He gets a cameo appearance in hopes he can hit a quick three as the clock expires. I wonder with his limited minutes if he is a red shirt candidate.

"We'll play him when he's 100% mentally and physically."

Pitino on Deivon Smith
