SJU's Home Court
Also, understand the problems a lot of people have at CA but I love it there. I’ve been at St. John’s for 3 years and when I walk into that arena for a game, I’ve been to probably 35+ at this point, it really feels like our home.

MSG doesn’t. At least not to me. It’s our home for sure, but because it’s MSG it’s an open invite for our opponents fans to come and watch. They come out in big numbers, and considering half the time MSG doesnt even take the damn Knicks logo off the court, it feels like we are visitors in our own arena

CA needs a lot of improvements but I’ll be pissed if we stop playing games like Creighton, Butler, etc there.
Wish we had more young and passionate fans like yourself
Spoke with Cragg in the recent past about seatbacks and concessions specifically. He agrees, but he said the seatbacks seem so simple but is actually a huge pain and very tricky. He knows first hand since he had many seatbacks installed at Duke's football stadium. The plan would be for CA to be more like a complete bowl with a lower student section instead of being away from the action and detached. Student section may be moved to side like Cameron.
They did that once before and screwed long time season ticket holders like myself. Moved section 3 ticket holders across court to section 8. We were a rabid section of fans. True story, JohnThompson cursed me out at one point.

Needless to say, mAny were pissed and didn’t come back.

PS the “student” section never took hold. All adults and no students which really pissed us off.

Jack,

You will likely feel different about CA when you are no longer young. My first game was in 1983 and while the arena is largely the same, it felt more comfortable then than it is to me right now. Age (and size) is a factor.

MSG means two things to me right now. One, it is likely to be a bigger game since we don't play "buy games" there and second, it means that I will be comfortable during the game.

Also keep in mind, that for a lot of people in my age group, a game at MSG was and is special. Some of the biggest games in Big East history have been held there. We've seen the place when it is sold out and rocking. Hope that you can get the chance to experience the same thing soon.

Having gone to sju for 5 years , then worked for 2.5 years, then grad school for 3 more years, sju campus is a really home to me. Back then students and alums played pickup ball in the gym and I felt like the campus was mine, knowing every inch including the chapel, and law school library where we studied. Not against the Garden at all but love the queens campus from the 1st day as an undergrad.

I see bunches of people I know at every game and have even met some of you there. Nothing like being on campus to me.

In my opinion gyms like Alumni Hall were built with the mindset that a lot of students would be attending games. When I was 19, I didn't mind sitting on a bench packed in with others. When it is half full and you can at least stretch out a littlest is bearable. When it is packed like the DePaul game feels like the 7 train during rush hour. It is very convenient for me so I tolerate it.

Agree with Jack about CA. Have had season tickets for 5-6 years now and although it is severely lacking it does have an identity and attraction that MSG does not. It’s like the old vs. the new Yankee Stadium. Loved the old as a season ticket holder for years even though it was outdated and difficult , was excited about the new but it has no tradition or character. Keep half the games at CA and the rest at MSG
