SJUBB Bandwagon Debate

Jay Z was the first person to congratulate my wife and myself when we came off the court after getting engaged, center court, during a SJU vs Duke game (we lost, big time). He was standing on the sideline and just grabbed my hand and shook it and then grabbed my wife and gave her a big hug.
That’s cool.

In retrospect, it is a good thing that SJU just missed out on guys like Kareem, Olajuwon, Payton, Hurley, Garnett, Brand, and Anthony.

With a bunch of final four banners hanging from the rafters, could you imagine how insufferably large and obnoxious the bandwagon would be then? Let’s all be thankful things turned out the way they did.

Final Fours. National championships. Yuck. It’s all about the journey.
114 would probably be 414

I have no problem with celebs at our games. As you said, it gives it a big time feel. That is all but one, Spike Lee. I’ll never forget Lee cheering loudly for hated Georgetown back in the day and was at the game when Ewing gave Mullin an elbow to the face and Mo went down watching Spike jumping up and celebrating. Thank goodness our guy Kevin Williams went on to even the score later in the game. 😎👍
Stay home Spike, you’re not welcome.

Forget Spike for the moment. One of our greatest team moments was Kevin Williams v. Ewing.
Now, back to Spike. He’s box office and he’s New York. I welcome him with open arms. I’m sure his Georgetown fandom was based upon Nike and money.
I hated Ewing so much and hated what the Knicks did to Mark Jackson (was CRP involved in drafting Rod Strickland and trading Mark?) that I temporarily stopped rooting for my beloved Knicks.
We can all change our minds. We should never turn on interested and passionate fans.

Spike is a champion of the black community as was Georgetown. There were like no black coaches. You had Chaney, Thompson and Robinson - and he was football. Richardson later? Plus they fielded a 100% black roster. They were all the rage and there's no way Spike couldn't have backed them. Even hailing from Brooklyn.
Very well stated. Spike Lee made movies for the Black Community and about the Black Community at a time when no one else was doing this. He lived in Fort Greene and his 40 Acres and a Mule office was in Fort Greene. At that particular time, it was natural for him to identify with Georgetown.

Spike Lee also sponsored a basketball camp at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn for a few years during the late 1990's.

Since Spike Lee appears to be a basketball fanatic, it is understandable that he would gravitate to St John's once we had a very good team to root for an support.

Thé success that Coach Thomson brought to Georgetown bball was amazing , overcoming all odds. Their AD took a chance on a local high school coach and what a great gamble it was. From 81-85 he participated in 3 national championship games and all without cheating. No coach besides Thomson and Chaney cared more about their players welfare.
There was every reason under the Sun and more to be a Georgetown fan.
