SJUBB Bandwagon Debate

There's a reason those prime seats got comped. They sell other seats and attract fan interest. Ben Stiller and Timothee were on camera constantly.

Courtside seats the other night for Knicks game were listed for as much as $80,000 and I've been told some sold in that range.

Nosebleed seats going for $1,500 and up! I know I can’t afford to go, yet alone take my family. Insane!

I was listening to the bill simmons podcast with ryen russillo this morning and was surprised to hear russillo call out Spike for glomming on to st John’s this past year lol. Rusillo always been a St. John’s fan so I guess we know where he lands on this topic

Maybe MSG told him if he wants to keep his prime celebrity row seats for Knicks he had to show up for some St. John's games 😆

Celebs always show up when things are good. I always hated when the celebs showed up in the best seats for the World Series and they sit and chat and rarely watch the game. When they attend regular season games and cheer for their teams, I think that's OK. Among the best celebrity fans is the actor Nicholas Turturro, of NYPD Blue and Blue Bloods fame, who is a great Yankee fan.

A celebrity row for the other sports does not have the same feel because of the way basketball seating is set up.

You normally do not notice celebrities attending the other sports unless they are on a big screen because they are separated from the playing area. Celebrities mainly go to baseball playoff games for example, if their show is being crossed promoted by the network showing the game. And many leave after eating an obligatory hotdog.

Basketball essentially allows them to be in the playing area and be seen throughout, which is why celebrities even go to mid week games in January. Which is perfect since it all about feeding their immense egos.

@Dave -- this would be a pretty great pod guest.

Every StJ’s grad I have met through this site comes from a “blue collar” upbringing who, through hard work has improved their life.

StJ’s “blue collar”, hard working- underdog culture is reflected in its student enrollment of nearly 40% Pell Grant eligible student body which is nearly 3 times the Pell Grant percentage of other Big East schools.

For this reason I don’t care whether the “celebrities” start attending StJohn’s games. I am however sure the bandwagoners will come when the Johnnie’s are top 10 team throughout this coming season.

Love the bandwagon!

Instead of plying random drunks at the bar to join me with the very enticing promise of free drinks, I got to go to games for the first time with 3 good friends:

A SJ alum who had never been to a game; a guy who lives half a block from Utopia parkway who had never been to Alumni; and a guy that watched Frank Alagia the last time he went to a game.

John McEnroe being a Douglaston boy, actually is a Johnny fan not a Johnny-come-lately fan either.

Carl Banks became a fan when he played for the ny football Giants back in the 1980's hay day of St. John's and the Jints.

Didn't either or both Ray Romano and Kevin James wear St. John's gear on their sit coms?
Definitely remember Ray Romano wearing SJU in several episodes

“I’ve been really close friends with John for a long, long time,” Red Storm coach Chris Mullin said. “He likes to come out and support. As a kid he watched St. John’s. … I met John when I was in high school and we stayed friends ever since. We support each other. John is the ultimate competitor, ultimate New Yorker. It’s nice to have that support.”

What's Russillo's connection to SJU?
