Mario, I thought the "woke" Nike campaign was silly as well, but I'm putting my love for SJ hoops above it. Kap didn't come close to sacrificing everything as they implied...the guy is worth over $20 million and was raised in a loving home with privilege. Everything is virtue signaling today, you know that. I just try to get past the BS and look forward to seeing cool Nike jerseys and gear for us. As others have said, it will probably help recruiting too, though not sure that much. UA was pretty inventive with us and gave us some cool looks...I hope Nike gives us something. There's a lot you can do with our colorway and NYC location. I recently bought a Mullin throwback SJ jersey made by Nike on eBay. I think they came out like 15-20 years ago, so it's used but still cool. Hope they can make more like that for fans. Sorry to ramble, but one thing I haven't liked is going away from legit brands like New Era and Zephyr hats and embracing "Top of the World" and "47 Brand". The hats are a bit weird and UA hats are very weird. I recently went to LIDS in the South Shore mall in Bayshore and the guy said "We have 1 St. John's hat". When he showed me, it was a purple SJU aka St. Joe's. I rolled my eyes and said "that's not St. John's". How can St. Joe's have hats for sale in LIDS and we don't?!
Thanks Mike! I agree the Nike campaign was silly (more than silly in my opinion).....Again in my opinion, Pat Tillman would have been a much better choice. He really sacrificed everything!
The thing that bother me most is that I believe Nike chose Kap for monetary reasons (how suprising) because they thought it would resonate with the millennial population. If they really believe he sacrificed anything, then we live in a F'd up world. If Nike wants to start a crusade on social injustice, they should start in their own house. The treatment of the poor people who make their sneakers in Indonesian and Chinese factories is just the beginning. The pennies it cost to make them and ship them here and charge huge margins.....Those workers are sacrificing, much more than Kap has ever had to.
As for the gear, I've purchased many items in the past (including Nike gear) that I still have......Guess I'll have to wear it all out for the remaining years of my life. I still have a sweatshirt with the Indian dribbling a basketball.
