This must be brutal for anyone not coaching an elite team. First the portal requires a coach to re-recruit most of the team, and decide who to let go without a fight. Then you have to recruit half a new team every season, and face bidding wars for players that don't average in double figures.

With a coach like Pitino, the sky should be the limit. It is hard to go deep in the tournament without NBA talent. Maybe too early to tell, but none of the returnees with experience jump off the page as sure fire NBA draft picks. Maybe one of the freshman, but who knows with freshman. Which means that CRP has to get commitments from some serious players to do anything more than sneak into the tournament. Which isn't easy considering the negative Big East bias. Between the protal and NIL, this is one awful system.

So you deny that Taylor was offensively hesitant? Have you really forgotten what went on during the season? How Pitino would start him and then in the next few games played only a few minutes cause coach was trying to get him more aggressive offensively?

I’m old so my memory sucks, but you’re a young guy. 😂👍

Where have I said anything that makes you think that? Yes he was hesitant to look for his own shot.

We don’t know how Scott will translate here. Perhaps he will be hesitant too. Perhaps Taylor will be more aggressive with a year in the system. If we knew points would just transfer over from previous place then Taylor would have been a 12 point a game guy last year.

Taylor entered portal but said he was keeping options open to return. That does not suggest he was forced out by Staff. It suggests Taylor is exploring other opportunities and might well return.

Didn’t say he was forced out. Word at the time I believe was that the decision was mutual and amicable. Suspect he was looking for some indication of more consistent role and didn’t get it. As I said I’d be very happy to see him return just don’t see it happening. Hope I’m wrong.

Someone mentioned how rare it is to hear someone has been declared academically ineligible now. That is due to several reasons. With mandatory study halls and tutors, there is more academic support. Of course you also there is still the old “wink, wink” and fraud around somewhere. There is also this poorly explained metric that they want to create a transfer academic progress rate and then creation of something they are calling a graduation passport. (The cbs story doesn’t mention mention it but it’s mentioned in ncaa material.) I can’t find where I first read it but it seems meant to tell a kid how many credits are transferable before he leaves. And maybe it’s a way for coaches to say “hey, you know you’re never going to get a degree on scholarship if you leave for X school. Are you sure you want to do this. The NBA is no guarantee.”

This goes into it a bit but I did see a better explanation somewhere.
