See RedStormRising's post below regarding your second question, and I will add for the third time, each somewhat to make it as clear as possible, during the season, you are not going to assist and make the request for only one of your players when you have another one in a similar boat. You do it for both. It is the right thing to do and at that point you don't know one way or the other what is going to happen.

While I still have faith that coach and staff will bring in a good crop of players, I’m starting to wonder if I miss understood what this site has been professing regarding portal recruiting or if all the info we have been getting is just supposition and wishful thinking on the part of many posters.

Many have claimed that Coach staff and Matt A have made many inroads during the season with potential transfer candidates. But here’s what seems strange.

1. If such inroads have been made, then why has not one played popped for the Johnnie’s as of yet? And please spare me the old “recruiting is fluid “ mantra. Someone should have popped by now or we at least should have had multiple visits.

2. Since now, many are claiming that coach and staff are anticipating better players coming out so why not wait? With so many surprises in the portal, I don’t believe that staff fully knew ahead of time who was going to be available and those so called in roads were just hopeful speculation by many of our posters.

The reality seems to be a vivid imagination by many of our fan base as to the process of getting kids out of the transfer portal. I mean come on now, how many times have we heard that Cliff was coming in for a visit??? 🤪

It's too early to say any of these things because we don't know the supposed inroads that were made, outside of Cliff -- which has been a super underwhelming development.

I will say, I don't appreciate some of the insiders on the board saying on one hand, Pitino is cooking/roster will be ready to compete/portal is breaking the way we want, and then on the other hand, calling the fan base entitled/expectations are crazy/we're all impatient.

Frankly, STJ and its fans should be appreciative of any fans they have that are dedicated enough to be following the program at this granular of a level considering how awful the last 25 years have been.

Good points here....

I don't believe a company hires a person for a position, and not have that person do anything. In this case- Matt A. I trust that he has made "inroads" with particular players/camps during the season... gauging interest, scouting the potential landscape, etc...

With Cliff in particular- Matt cannot help if Kansas or some other school contacts him once he Officially hits the portal.

A player would have had to be fully committed to Pitino and SJU prior to entering the portal to have already declared for us... and that is seemingly not the case.
 
I seem to remember the same obsessive compulsive threads last year expressing disappointment. We basically had Joel and nothing else and it turned out to be fine. I think I’ll wait to see what Pitino puts together. I trust the guy and he’s not sitting on his hands.

Fine according to who? Pitino complained about the roster all season.

I expect this roster to be waaaaaay better.

If we have anything close to last year then it has been a complete and utter failure. There are plenty of valid excuses year one..getting NIL in line, filling so many spots, recalibrating recruitment to high major players, learning the unique challenges St. John’s offers, etc. There are far fewer excuses now.

We have Rick Pitino! Expectations should be high, his own expectations are that. Totally agree.
