I will go with
1. Zuby
2. RJ or Smith depending on the game
3. Richmond - only because the next two have serious weaknesses.
4. Scott - serious disappointment shooting the ball.
5. Wilcher - terrible in most big games.
6. Dunlap - I am shocked I am saying this but I miss him.
7. Vince - serviceable for his role
8. Glover - hopefully a lot of upside
9. Prey - same as Glover
10. Ayo - he plays hard
11. Lefty - N/A to this point
12. Maker- N/A to this point

I can only hope for improvement.
 
Looking for some clarification on Kadary, and I don't mean this as an insult. Is he just super slow? does he intentionally move slow? or does he just not always run hard? For example, I was watching a play last game where after a St. Johns missed shot, he could not prevent a breakaway in the other direction because of how slowly he was moving back up the court.
 
Difficult to quantify. Zuby is clearly the most important. RJ is clearly the best overall player, but we have depth at his spot. Smith is the only one that is a ++ athlete and only good on-ball defender against PGs and combos. Scott and Wilcher are so good when it's clicking. Prey just hasn't been getting the minutes he should be from an outside eye. Smith needs to attack the basket way more in secondary transition.

If everybody else on the team played with his tenacity I'd rate them, but no one else does.

Isn't Khadary nursing a strained patella tendon, but still leading the team in minutes?

Not to corect you or absolve Khadary in a situation, but there are a lot of reasons 5 guys don't chase a break at full speed. Ideally all 5 should bust it every second they are on the court, but when guys are playing hurt or playing a high # of minutes not always advisable.

Case in point re performance: Dunlap has been criticized on here for poor shooting. Yet he played numerous games with a torn ligament in the thumb of his shooting hand, and is still shooting 46.5% from the field and 38.5% from three.

Of course every kid has strengths and weaknesses and its up to the coach to put them in positions that maximize their strengths and work on correcting weaknesses. That's why Rick publicly criticized RJs decision to drive on 4 guys on the last play vs Creighton, both passing up an open three, and not running the play that was drawn up.

I thonk if these kids are we think they are, and they are coachable, we will get much better as the season progresses. Still, though, these winnable games hurt.

The tape is not kind to Kadary I’ll say that

Could’ve been involved in this play but *checks notes* Ryan kalkbrenner blew past him
 
Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but here’s what I believe:

We are going to continue to see Kadary moving like this the rest of the year. It will cause him to be mediocre on both offense and defense and will impact where this team can go.

Then after the season the reports will come out that the tendonitis was “worse than originally reported” and he had to play through it because mediocre Kadary is better than no Kadary to the staff.
 
Pitino - D? Give me a break. We’ve lost three games by six points
5... but still the same amount of losses.... man... i thought the Georgia shooting game was going to be an aberration ... but after seeing the stinkers these kids are capable of vs Prov and now Creighton... we better hope we keep this Defense up

Beast, I agree that the team will get better as the season goes on just as last years team did. The problem is that these early OOC games now take on such prominence with regard to tournament selection etc. and in conference road games are also looked at. We already gave away three games. Now, I understand that it’s unreasonable to expect us to be undefeated even at this point but we will lose more games and we are squandering signature win opportunities. Will they improve , yes. Will it be too late like last years team. Maybe, I hope not. Whatever the reason is , we can’t have this waiting three quarters of the season to gel every year because the way college basketball is now you just have too many important games early and it seems that’s when opinions are formed. If we won one of those three games we would probably be ranked right now. Instead, the way this is playing out with the schedule and everything, we won’t have a chance to be ranked until we play and beat Marquette and UConn and that’s assuming we win 8 of our 9 games prior to playing them. This is how razor thin these margins are now. We’ll see.
 
Well, struggles and all Kadary is currently:

3rd in PPG (tied with Smith)
4th in RPG (a half rebound behind Luis and Smith)
2nd in APG (a half assist behind Smith)
2nd in steals (a half steal behind Smith)
2nd in blocks

Do you think that any current bench player is replacing that?

and our Team leader in nearly every category ?
For a Player so highly touted and paid so much to come here , his return on Investment is awful .
He should be a stat leader in the BE numbers , not our team stats . He isn’t anywhere close .
Unless a fire ignites up his back side in the remaining BE schedule , he won’t be making any All BE teams.

Presumably , RP is again is using Media to motivate Players ..
What is puzzling is how did this Staff and RP think KR and Smith would be complimentary players from a style standpoint ? Baffling !

Clayton jr and Jenkins were complimentary Players for Pitno at Iona . Not Smith and Richmond . It’s a little late in the ballgame Rick to make those comments .

As Mase has astutely pointed out, much of the criticism of Kadary relates to the issue of expectations.

IMHO much of that expectations gap relates to people not watching enough games - I think some thought that Kadary was going to be some form of Kam Jones or Shamorie Ponds and that is not who he has ever been.

No question he has had his struggles in some areas this year, but some of the numbers decline was to be expected when you take him from a team where he was the center of everything to a team where he's sharing time at the point and is in a very different system.

I also think that the "effort" narrative is wildly overblown. If you watch the games, he gets to where he needs to be when he needs to be there almost all of the time. A speedster he will never be but he is also a player who understands the concept of team defense and when to pass off a driver to the center. The folks who are hung up on "but he doesn't LOOK like he's trying" are clearly ones who think Lenny Dykstra was a better player than Bernie Williams.

Anyway it is clear that Kadary is hands-down the winner of the Daniss Jenkins Memorial Highjack Every Thread award.
 
interesting, I watch the games, I’d say the exact opposite. One of the lazier defenders we’ve had here in awhile and it causes him to be out of place constantly
I agree. And I’m Perplexed why some are so invested in defending a player who is Clearly playing under what was not only expected but his past performance. I’ve said it before that while I don’t want to attribute it to attitude or going thru the motions, it sure seems that way. No other way to explain 45 percent free throw shooting. Lazy passes. Missing bunnies. Poor defense. Yes his numbers look OK and some point to the fact that “he does the little things”. But this year he’s also done the “ little things” that kill you and lead to losses. See above.

The coach acknowledged some of this in the Newsday article today. He outright said he spoke to KR about being slow and out of shape.

In this era of NIL these guys are no longer “kids” and it’s fair to judge them on performance.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think of these teams any more the way I did about the Alagia team, or the McCoy/Carter team, or the Mullin/Berry team, or the Malik team, or the Artest team etc. Mostly they’re hired guns. Some like KR are very highly compensated. I root for them because it’s my school and my favorite sport and for nostalgic habit.

Lawman, respectfully, this isn’t hijacking the thread. You started a thread about rating players. KR just happens to be the one this year who is most controversial and most perplexing to some, so when talking about ranking, he will certainly be subject to a lot of the discussion and teeth gnashing.

All that said, Im hoping today begins a new phase of the season where we begin to earn the high expectations going in and grab a post season spot.
