SJU Offseason Thread (portal and recruiting discussions)

Krissa can shoot with anyone but this kid has legit game. Can shoot and create, just has to prove he can make the jump up in competition level. And the lefty bonus
I like him, would just seem a peculiar fit given that he left WSU to be a big fish in a small pond and would be giving that up. Does he have a team first mindset and a would he be a positive culture fit even if not playing a ton? Don't know the kid so have no idea, just my concerns.

That’s fair. Maybe his goal was to prove himself and get back to a high major?

He hurt his back and had to RS his soph year. The coach that also recruited him there, Kyle Smith, left for Stanford (who coached Sellers last year). So I think whenever your coach leaves, its hard to judge. WSU was also in the WCC so its more lateral than it would seem to be at first glance.

My worry is that Darling's tape just doesn't impress me. But I am certainly no scout. lol.

This is where we disagree. I think the tape looks great but that comp is brutal. I’d love to be able to see what his stats would have looked like playing in the Ivy.

His tape looked ok to me. Agreed the comp is just terrible so tough to get a read. Though the 4:33 mark of this video helped assuage some of my athleticism concerns. Blows by Skyy Clark of UCLA and finishes at the rim. Had 3 games against high majors last year. Terrible outing in the season opener vs Arizona State but then very good performances vs UCLA and USC.

I've basically told myself if we do sign him, I'm going to try to watch the UCLA/USC/ASU games to get a better gauge. The guys on the court with them look like they've got cement in their shoes.
