I always thought our homecourt advantage there was underrated. When the team is good and the place is packed it feels like hell for the other team. Teams really hate playing there. Not badmouthing UBS without experiencing it (hopefully it's great) but I always felt like the ideal situation, for me at least, was a decent upgrade to Carnesecca where capacity can be somewhat increased without losing it's bandbox charm, the seating was more friendly on the back and legs and some upgrades in the concessions. Give me an upgraded Carnesecca with 4 or 5 "big games" at MSG per season and I couldn't ask for more. I'm sure there are significant financial hurdles for why that can't happen but it's what I envision in my head when I think of the ideal situation for the program.

Now, I don't know if these renters are mostly former residents who are moving back, mostly newcomers or a combination of both. All I can tell you is that the rental market is booming.

Were you at the CA games against #10 Creighton where Greg Williams was on fire or the game against Marquette where Ponds had 44 or even the game we lost to Vermont after a furious comeback? When CA is jumping it is just as exciting as anywhere else and I hope we never go completely away from it. That being said, I love MSG too, the big second half comeback against Nova was probably the best game experience I've ever had. I guess what I'm saying is both arenas have their merits and I hope the school continues to use both when appropriate.Monte post=442013 said:There is absolutely nothing like watching an exciting St. John's team, in close game, at MSG. CA cannot compare, even with the partisan crowd. Maybe it's the alcohol at MSG, maybe it's because CA attracts more old fans and families, not as many students as other on campus arenas. I don't really know why, all I know is that I have rarely ever heard CA truly rocking, and I've been to numerous games at MSG were it felt like we were about to blow the roof off the house.

CA has definitely gotten louder in recent years. Wasn't suggesting that we abandon CA. Think both CA and MSG have their place. Don't think UBS should replace either or both.Double J post=442027 said:Were you at the CA games against #10 Creighton where Greg Williams was on fire or the game against Marquette where Ponds had 44 or even the game we lost to Vermont after a furious comeback? Don’t know if it has been considered, but it won’t work here. New Mexico = cheaper labor costs. State school with resources. St John’s = Most expensive construction labor costs in the country. Private Catholic school with limited resources. It won’t happen here.SJU61982 post=442039 said:I wonder if they have ever considered building a new facility similar to The Pit at New Mexico, where the actual arena is well below ground, you just enter through a small building.
If they can do that, then we can have a lot of freedoms with what we can do with our home court, WRT space, capacity, etc.
Now, that might not be possible, but if it is, it is something worth exploring, IMO.
