SHAMORI PONDS DRAFT PROJECTION & SIMON ???

The latest Mock Draft from Sport's Illustrated will not please Shamori. They have him going late in the 2ND Round (VERY few guarantee$ there) to the Jazz. If he went there he'd have a chance to develop & be backing up NBA All-Star Donavan Mitchell. As for Simon, I hope he rethinks his decision & DOESN'T sign with an agent, which would give him an opportunity to return for his Sr. year. He could work on his outside shooting from now through the entire Summer into next season as a starting guard for a new SJU coach and raise his draft stock for 2020.
IF he keeps the agent & throws his name in the draft he'll end up in the NBA Developmental League or be playing overseas. Time will tell if he has the work ethic to develop that outside shot & gets a chance to break into THE LEAGUE.

I just don't want them on Boston or LA. Other than that, I wish them the best.

The new coach is coming from a Jesuit school. You ok? ;)

I don't think Ponds will go earlier than mid to late second round and for good reason. Despite his ability to create his own shots and some stellar games, he also disappears a lot and not a little bit disappears, but 4 points and 2 assists disappears. He isn't exactly blessed in the I think he has the ability to play at that level but he didn't show a whole lot of consistency against lesser opponents. I see him as comparable to Hatten and although Hatten had a distinguished career overseas he didn't make it in league. I think Ponds will end up in a similar situation. There is nothing wrong with this. At 6'1"/180 he really needs to have a skill set that stands apart from other taller guards and I don't know that he has that.

Former St. John's star Shamorie Ponds is being repped by Ryan Davis of Rep 1 Sports. Has been invited to NBA Combine. Projected now as mid-to-late second rounder. Big thing for him now is improving his body ahead of workouts and combine. #sjubb

Idk. Ponds spends way too much time doing live Instagram. He should be so focused and locked in that he doesn't even have time for that crap. He needs to be on the hardwood and in the gym working on his game and his body. He needs to get away from social media.

Interesting commentary. Are we to assume he didn't take conditioning serious enough? Always notice he was never as ripped as some of the other guys on the team but that's not enough to make an assumption.

He didn't. He didn't eat well or workout I was told by a few people. Would have loved to see a coach kick him in the ass. But alas

You maybe right but IMO if you really want it you don’t need to be kicked in the ass. Ponds has tremendous ability and a less than stellar work ethic, both physically and mentally.

I don't disagree at all

I fully agree with this. Especially as the season was going down the toilet, and they were playing very average teams, I kept waiting for him to place the team on his shoulders, display some attitude and a refuse to lose mentality.. I’m still waiting....

Really interesting you bring this up today. 3 nights ago Felipe Lopez in the Q&A following the film said today top recruits have zero interest in a degree and are more interested in being social media stars before they even get to college.

Lopez now works for the NBA for their charitable arm NBA Cares. He appears to be dead on and Ponds is an example

Felipe is 100 percent correct. Too many of the kids are more interested in how many "likes" or "views" or followers they have. Right now at this most critical juncture in his life Ponds should be as far away from social media and "friends" as possible. Obviously I'm following him on insta and I kid you not, about 4 or 5 times a day I get a notification that "slick is live right now"..

Maybe he does or doesn't realize that it's all about to end. The phrase NBA or bust might apply, and if bust, he will end up in Europe or south America or somewhere where the stage is much smaller than it is right now.

I don't wish failure on him. He has as much a right to chase a dream as anyone, but it appears the dream is further from reality than it was just 6 months ago, when the promise of an outstanding junior season would convince the NBA that he was a bonafide 1st rounder. Now his Hopes rest on the handful of teams that might waste a 2nd round pick, and he then kills it in camps
Slimmer odds. Much slimmer, but I'm sure those close to him tell him otherwise.
Start learning Italian. He may get drafted somehow but he ends up in Europe
Does Berlitz offer group discounts? Ponds, Clark and Simon should decide between Italian and Turkish.
BTW, Marvin and Justin are attending class and working out but no mention of Shamorie. Anyone know if he is still on campus?

Both of these guys are going to make money playing basketball next year. On top of that they will be earning significantly more than 98% of people during their first year of work.

Sure I’d like them to play for STJ forever, but they gotta earn a living.
