Seton Hall

ok, making the big drive down from the North Country tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I'll be meeting some Seton Hall fanatics for brunch..
but then I expect to eat their lunch.

I always worry about playing the Hall. They have a better inside presence but mostly I worry that our trainer will wax nostalgic and fail to properly stop the bleeding of one our players. LOL!
Just kidding since Ron is the best trainer in the Big East.....even if he is a Seton Hall grad.

We need our next 2 without question to remain a bubble team. This is my scenario for us to make the tournament at the least...feel free to pick it apart:

If St. John's can A) Win their next 2 games B ) Beat one of G'Town/Cuse/L'Ville C) Beat one of Pitt/Providence D) Beat one of USF/Marquette and E) Win at least 1 or 2 games in the Big East tourney then I think we are on the bubble. If we drop either of our next 2, there is no chance unless we somehow beat L'Ville and Cuse then run the table in the Big East tourney.

That would put us at 17-13 (9-9) and with one or 2 Big East tourney wins, I say we barely get in assuming Nova falls off a bit.

We have to go at least 5-6 to finish out for any hope.

This is 100% doable and not really far-fetched. A is definitely doable, for B beating G'Town isn't impossible given how inconsistent they are, for C we should be able to beat Prov, for D we should be able to beat USF and E is not asking for much at all. It all comes down to how bad this team wants it and how hungry they are. If we find late season consistency and knock off most of the teams we should, I will have a great feeling about our tourney hopes.

Hey. I don't know if you saw it, but I legitimately offered you a ticket to tomorrow's game, but you didn't respond.

And no, 17-13, (9-9) will not get us an at large bid. Only buble teams that have proven themselves warriors in NCAA tourneys get the subjective nod. We are not getting a bid unless we get to 11 or 12 wins in conference. Whie not mathematically impossible, it is highly unlikey unless we have the sort of roll we had two seasons ago.

Can't make it, but thanks anyway...appreciate the offer. I think if we can knock off Cuse or L'Ville it will put us in. To go 9-9 in arguably the toughest conference in America with wins over #14 Cincy, #20 Notre Dame, and #5 L'Ville/#3 Cuse (whatever their rankings will be on Monday) it says a lot IMO. What makes me mad is how teams like Wichita State (SOS 83 vs. ours of 25) get to play teams like Bradley to get in and we have to go through the buzzsaw of Cuse/L'Ville/ND/Pitt/G'Town. If we can keep improving and we get Lawrence, there is absolutely no excuse to not be a top 5 team consistently in the new league with 5 of the current top 7 teams leaving. Obviously I don't expect we make the tourney, but as Nova showed us, anything can happen.

I didn't realize how dominant SH has been against us in recent years. They have shot 65% from 3 against us recently which is crazy, gone 9-3 since 2004, and their last 2 wins against us were by a margin of a combined 44 points. Hopefully the law of averages works itself out and gives them an ice-cold day of shooting. It's important to note that their squad last year was a team that should have made the tournament, ranked, and almost won the NIT championship I believe. At the same time, we have a better team than we did last year. SHU is not nearly the studly team it was last year, but they are still definitely a threat.

Will be there today with the Mrs. rooting our guys on. I have turned her into quite the St. John's fan! One at a time....one at a time.

I think we'll need to do more. This is getting ahead of ourselves, but still fun to look at.

Need the two this week and then one of the G'Town/Louisville/Cuse/ND road games. Beat USF and Providence and that gets us 9. Take 2 of 3 at home against UConn/Pitt/Marquette and that gets us 11 with a 19-11 overall record. If we finish 5th or 6th in the conference, then we get a "winnable" first round BET game to get us to 20. I think that gets us in, but we clearly have to keep getting better and have a lot of work to do to make this happen. It's not out of the question.

This is a trap game, i'm concerned. We need to play intense for 40 minutes, Control Fuquan Edwin and limit their 3's. The Hall is subject to turning the ball over so we should take advantage of that. The talk of us being close to the bubble is fun yet premature. Seton Hall won't roll over easy.

Agree completely. In recent years, SH has always been a tough game for us, and I don't expect it to be any different today, especially with Oliver and Mobley being reactivated.

is the game on t.v? i went to espn3 on the computer and it said the game is blacked out in my area

ESPN3 online for me. The Hall with a slight edge right now 29-24, 7 mins to go. They are hitting treys. Teague could play a number of football positions, he is a tank.

SJU up by 5 at HT after a nice run, I think we outscored them something like 17-8 in last few mins. Harrison hit a 3 at the buzzer.
