@Seton Hall, Tue., Jan. 16, 8:30p, FS-1

Honestly on cold dope this is a W for us. The real question is whether we pick ourselves off the mat after the last game to get that W. We are better offensively and defensively.

Really don’t know if NET is used by Vegas or not. It obviously wasn’t prior to NET becoming a thing. But It appears it is in some instances. But at the same time. Utah had a high net and Stanford a low NET. Utah at Stanford was -2. So the NET differential between Utah and Stanford was much wider than St. John’s seton hall. So the NET argument doesn’t hold water there. So who knows. Plus some home courts carry more weight than others. Like Creighton has a big home court when it comes to lines. I suppose seton hall does not in the eyes of Vegas.

I watched a decent amount of Seton Hall earlier in the season- they are a gritty team- but not overly impressive... shocked that they have started the way they have in the BE....

Dawes can get hot from 3... and we know Wusu a bit... Their Bigs arent an offensive threat... Richmond is willing them to victories...

You ask me a month ago, would say we sweep them easy... but you are what your record says you are... and they are Top of our League.

Gonna be a good one

I'm kind of shocked that we'd be considered favorites in this game. This is a road game against a team that is 5-1 in the BE, including wins over UConn and Marquette.
BPI agrees with you. They favor Seton Hal (slightly), giving us a 46.7% chance to win.

On a very brief side note, I'd love to watch a 60 minutes or Inside Sports with Bryant Gumble segment on how Vegas gets their lines.

Can't really see us winning this one but would love to see a 20 shot effort emphasis on threes from Fergie as he's on fire from long range shooting 7 of 13 - 54% last 3 games.

I remember getting out the Roc a few years back right after a RHCP Concert. Luckily, I missed people being curb stomped and robbed by the fine folks of Newark. Wasn’t looking to give away now.

I know the metrics suggest that we should be a small favorite, but the performance in conference suggests that Seton Hall should be a 1-2 point favorite here.

I agree with Weathermannyc, we should not be favored, especially given our history at the Pru.

By the same token I agree with Mike Zaun Returns {Hall is way overdue for stinker. Let’s hope.} the way the Big East works, they are due to a stinker and a return to terra
firma.

The message at the end of Creighton was clearly that SJU has to be tougher. The kids watched film individually with Rick on the plane back. Jenkins held himself accountable to the group in the locker room. The messages this season seem to have been received once communicated. (unlike last year)

I think we see a hungry team ready to answer the bell.

Seton Hall is the *perfect* test for toughness and consistent motor on defense.

Agreed Silly, we need this game , no doubt. If we lose this game and then have to play Marquette at home , we could be looking at three loses in a row. If we lose this game then the season just becomes same’ol , same’ol as it’s been for the last 20+ years. Thats how important this game is for us. Seton Hall is on fire right now and they’re playing at home. I have a very queasy feeling about this game. It can change the entire trajectory of our season.
This is Rick Patino‘s first season with an entirely newly revamped team. I think we’re expecting too much too soon. In my opinion, this will be a successful season, but we need to temper our expectations of what our final record will be.

Turnovers and rebounds are going to determine this one. SHU turns it over a ton so hopefully our pressure works to eliminate some of their possessions. Both teams are elite offensive rebounding teams but struggle on the defensive glass. This is where that extra toughness is going to have to be employed.

SHU also has been very aggressive sitting the gaps and helping off shooters this season. Could be a game for Dunlap to get extended minutes again and may even see a Taylor 3 point attempt.
