@Seton Hall, Sun. Dec. 31, 5p, FS1/570AM

There is obviously something seriously wrong with our defense and coaching when every team has lights out shooting from 3 against us.

Next season we will have 13 Big East caliber players for the first time in what feels like forever. With development of Owens and if Simon can improve his shooting with all we have returning and what we have coming in, next year is our breakout year. We will be the surprise team in the country next season.

Not if Trimble and Yakwe are here.

I know there's no such thing as a 'moral victory'--and if there were, it would still suq. But this IS a moral victory. We win this today--even with just Ponds, and we would've beaten Providence if Shamorie hadn't gone gimpy. We have NO depth, but the talent is real. Not perfect. But tough and real.

I'm so tired of hearing "if" with this program.

Amar was a Lavin recruit and has lasted 4 Years here , out of need for a Bench player . Remember too, he has been essentially put on waivers every off season but, still remains . He has , on occasion , delivered some timely shots but, overall , is strictly a 10 -12 minute a game player . The guy, nobody talks about , that is really missed this Year is Mussini ! Think how much more he would have given in Lovett and now , Ponds absence than Trimble . Mussini could have easily equaled Lovett’s 14 points a game , if given the playing time . So another Player gone who would have been a key shooter on a team in need of a 3 Pt sharpshooter ! We win yesterday with Mussini taking those late 3’s instead of Owens or Clark .

Regarding my comment on Simon's play-I'd like my crow served medium. Plenty of salt and pepper, please.

has redmen dot com become msnbc? should val ackerman have jeff sessions appoint a special investigator to look into mullin's dossier? is papadopolous also the graduate assistant that got the bench t? should maxine watters demand that every sju game start with a technical against mullin?
the technicals - mullin - s/hall had the ball anyway, mullin "swears" he did not say a word, mullin's toes were on the court - both free throws were missed
bench t - sju went on 8 & 0 run right after the t. of course if ponds or lovett were in the game s/hall would have probably made it an 16 & 0 s/hall run.
the owens t - no shots taken - offsetting t's.
owens - owens - owens. guy has career day/week/month & is not mentioned until page 14 of s/hall thread.
the wonderfull 5 almost pulled off the upset of the season against a top 23 big east team on the road.
its a shame tribble is not big east worthy. i hope to eat crow in 3/2/1 year(s).
as far as AA is concerned. he has been roster cut more times than any johnnie i can remember. he bleeds red.

I am not a believer in "moral victories". But, if you told me that Ponds and Lovett would both be out against a Top 25 team on the road, I would not have expected us to win, let alone compete as well as we did.

The kids played hard and with heart. Down to 7 scholarship players, they gave it their all. I thought the chemistry on the floor was very good and the effort was strong. Having the kids see that they can compete without their two "star" guards can only help us down the road.

I do agree that it is disappointing that Yakwe has not been able to shake the sophomore slump that hit him last year. Trimble looks like a one trick pony - he never saw a 3 point shot that he didn't like. I hope that our staff can help him develop but, to date, he looks lost on the floor. And, Amar is Amar. Enough said.

Disagree about Coaching and Defense yesterday .. Game plan , like last year’s Win against the Pirates was to take Delgado from dominating the game . In the first half , we swarmed him and he was mostly a spectator . But, Powell, Carrington , Rodriguez were on fire and since we were helping on Delgado low , we were late getting to the spot up shooters . Second half , there weren’t so hot and Delgado didn’t dominate until late and he was the difference with the game on the line . Early second half , the Hall guards started to turn it over and we fought back . The 2 blocks we had on Desi and Carrington turned into 4 crucial points as Delgado was the only one aware of the ball and he put the Game away with those 2 put backs . Can we get Mussini back ? Too bad we can’t .

"...as soon as they're healthy, they'll play..." Smart. Hope it's soon, but that's best for LoVett & Ponds and for St. John's. Knees are tricky devices--particularly with the slashing, starts/stops/twists of Messrs. Marcus and Shamorie.

It’s called Home Court advantage and was present yesterday ... With any of these 3 yesterday : Ponds Lovett and Mussini , we win .. ..

Regarding Clark not banging down low I agree with Boo H that that just doesn't seem to be who he is. When he gets banged down low he rarely converts; he doesn't seem to like the contact that way some guys do. OTOH that is something you can work on and improve. I recall Bobby Knight doing drills where he had guys initiating all kinds of contact with people as they went to the hole just to train them to maintain their focus on completing the shot regardless of what else was happening. For next year however I expect Clark will slide to the 3 with Bash gone and will fit very well there. We wont need hime to bang given the bodies we'll have down low - Owens, Keita, Roberts, Yakwe, and Brooks who I expect to start at the 4 from what I've seen of his game,

Silver lining is guys being forced to step up in absence of 2 stars. Hopefully, results in more players being able to contribute in regular basis.

To date, must say that both Clark and Simon have exceeded my expectations.
And I believe you can add Owens to that group. The 3 transfers have been great as of late. Owens played like an All American yesterday while playing against an All American.
Those 3 are the poster children for unhappy players who wish to transfer from a top 25 program in search of a program in a high level conference where they will get increased pt. If Owens and Simon continue their surprising good play during the balance of their time at SJU they may find themselves on an NBA roster.

Hopefully when the guards come back they incorporate Clark, Simon and Owens more in the offense. Those guys stepped up nicely yesterday.

Also, I've been critical of staff but I though they did a nice job yesterday with game plan. Sometimes it is good to just slow things down.

I also liked how Owens stood up for Simon after Sanogo gave him a shove. They are playing hard. Everyone just needs to be consistent.

Since he does not rebound as a SF perhaps with his shooting stroke from 3 he can play guard. He is not slow. MAGIIC was 6-8 lol

redmannorth, agree with your assessment -- and I hit the "like" icon to show it. However, when I did, the "like: 1" changed to "dislike: 2." (This has happened to me before; don't know why.) Just want to let you know an additional "like" was the intent. :)
