@Seton Hall, Sat., Jan. 18, 8p, FS-1

We need to come out strong right from the start tonight. If we want to be ranked on Monday then we have to outperform the metrics. You can’t just win games anymore. If we underperform the metrics then our NET, KPI and BPI or whatever other crap they use will actually go down. We can’t just squeak one out. Unfortunately, just winning isn’t good enough anymore unless you playing a top team. Let’s win this game by 15 and leave no doubt.

14 acceptable MG?

They are several pegs below us talent-wise. Outside of Coleman, I sincerely don't think anyone on that team is in our rotation. Over their last eight games (no more cupcakes), they've lost seven of eight games. Their only win was against DePaul in overtime, where they came back from a huge deficit. Metric-wise, this is on par with playing Michigan last year. As fans of a team on the cusp of making the Top 25, we should not be satisfied with a good effort or moral victory on the road -- this is a team you beat if you're serious.

That said, we aren't going to win by default. Their fans will be loud and show up for this game. They're physical and have shown a lot more effort/hustle than they did earlier in the year. Our history against them in the last decade is bleak, but that should have more of an impact on the fans than the players.

Few things I'm looking at today:

1) Can we limit their three point shooting? Over their last four games, they've shot 45% from three. In order for them to be in this game, they will need to be hitting three's at a decent clip. They shot 46% against Xavier, 50% against DePaul and 53% against Butler. We need to hustle around the perimeter and make sure they don't get open looks.

2) Zuby. This should be a huge day for Zuby. Seton Hall is a terrible defensive rebounding team. They rank 9th in the conference in rebounding and 300th in the country. We rank first in the conference, eight in the nation (!), along with first in offensive rebounding in conference and 9th in the nation. Their big man are not good. Toumi is too skinny and won't be able to stick with him. Okarafor is just a big body. Gods'Will is a nice freshman, but a freshman. Gus is a joke and might as well be their mascot. This should be a game where Zuby cleans up on the boards, and gets us a lot of second chance points.

3) The paint. We need to limit second chance points. Seton Hall is third in offensive rebounds. Sha does get these guys to work. We need to keep them to one shot a possession, since they won't be able to hit it. They average second to last in FGA while we're the most. We'll win if we keep it at that. We average the second most blocks in the conference (6.1) and they get blocked the second most in the conference per game.

4) Foul shots. Seton Hall fouls the second most in the conference. Don't leave points on the board and make this close unnecessarily.

5) The bench. Same as last game. Where are we getting these minutes from? Can the level of play remain the same, or close to it, with Glover/Lefty/Prey/Vince/Ayo on the floor for 20-30 minutes? Those guys, maybe not Ayo or Lefty, would probably start on SHU.

Prediction:
The game thread is bonkers and an acid trip. STJ only up 3 at half time. Second half is the annihilation we all look for.

Andre Barrett -- 71
Marcus Hatten -- 82
I’m glad you are not my GPS, kidding, great stuff as usual.

Win and we’re ranked. A ton of teams ahead of us have just lost.

What is it about RJ that make opposing players want to foul him. It's like they're lab rats stuck in some kind of psychological experiment. The temptation is just too strong to resist. As long as he's making his foul shots, the white coats will be satisfied.

He is loose with the ball and that draws defenders like predators to a wounded animal. I wish he would use that more to his advantage and kick it more. That would help our outside shooting immensely.

He also has a real knack for shot fakes in the paint.

His shot fakes gets guys easier than a Novita redfan happy hour

Pitino , in his instructions about the three point play should have added that there is no rule in college basketball that you have to shoot a three. If you shoot 55 per cent from two point range and under 30 per cent from three unless the clock is running down you are probably better off working the ball in closer.

RJ can be erratic but boy does he show strong signs
of greatness.
Boom and he dominates a game. Five down and
all of the sudden he get us ten up and our opponents are
in disarray---game over.

He has an uncanny awareness of things like being right there
for the offensive rebound and putting it in. Stealing balls halfway upcourt
and laying them in = 4 points.

Those things are momentum starters as well as killing the
opponents momentum.

IMHO he is a GREAT PLAYER, he still needs a little more
polish so he'll play here next year, I hope

DON''T U'MESS wIth UMASS GUYS !
