Second half of the conference schedule

Just beat Providence and give Creighton game tremendous meaning. Enjoyed win yesterday, but M'Q shoots worse than us and has poor guard play. PC can shoot & has good guard play. We must contain Cotton, rebound, get Batts in foul trouble and wear them down. One at a time!

We have to win 7 of the last 9 games to have a 20 win season. 5 out of the 9 games are at home. I like these odds if we keep playing as we did yesterday.

If we go 6 and 3, with one of those wins being against Nova or Creighton, plus a first round win in the big east tournament.....I think we will make the NCAA tourney. Or finish 7-2, beat nova or creighton and we should make it.

At 20 total wins, with at least one signature win (creighton or nova), and over 500 in the big east I think we get in as a bubble team.

Whether or not we can do all those things is another question. If someone wants to say a 6-3 or 7-2 finish is not happening, nor is a win over creighton or nova...I'm not going to argue them bc they very well may be right.

For those of you who will say if we win 7 or 8 more big east games (BE tournament included) we still are not getting in, I'll remind you that how you finish usually holds more weight than how you started. We are on a small roll right now in big east play, if we finish on a major roll I think we get in.

Go at least 6-3 for the remaining schedule, finish at 9-9 in conference & 19-12 going into conference tourney. Then win a few in the BE tourney and finish with 21-22 wins and I think they get in. Will then face a very tough 1st round matchup against a 1-2 seed that will probably be a loss. Would need to finish 8-1 and/or win the BE tourney to get a good seed with a better path.

There's no way we will be facing a 1-2 seed in the first round. Most bubble teams get around the 12-13 seeds every year. 14-16 seeds are usually for mid-major teams that win their lower quality conferences.

Twelve seed is the lowest for an at large. Four of those teams need to play in.

Thanks for the update.

Iona and BYU played in that "first four" round as 14 seeds two years ago, but that was because they had to feed BYU into a Thursday/Saturday sight, since they refuse to play on Sundays.

Generally, yes, they don't go below 12 for an at-large, but every now and then you see a 13 seed at-large. There is no steadfast rule, of course.

Actually, I'm of the mindset that the at-large teams that win those "first four" round games, are at a bit of an advantage going into the next round.

We are so far away from legitimate talk of an NCAA bid, it's hard to participate in such banter. Rest assured, if we lose one of the next two games, both very tough ones, the negative posts will begin again. For now enjoy it. We are capable of playing two competitive games, and also capable of winning or losing both.

Huge game. I wonder if Coach starts Jordan on Cotton or goes with Phil again. They just have to run...Providence has no depth and the game will likely be close regardless of who is on top. Cotton is almost guaranteed to play 40 minutes again. If I'm coach, I'd make it a rule that they have to run Cotton of two screens each possession before they start the set. Hard fouls anytime he's in the lane. Body blows like a boxing match. Let's see how the kid plays the last five minutes after 80 collision. Nothing tires a kid out or frustrates him like having to fight through multiple screens every possession. And the kid is on the ball? Pressure him the whole way every time.

Does ESPN desire to crush Fox Sports impact Big East access to at large bids?

Judging by how long it took Creighton to get ranked, yes.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Big East's Top 4 could compete admirably with the ACC, Big Ten, PAC 12, AAC and Big 12s Top 4 on a neutral court anywhere in America.

Cooley might be doing the best coaching job in the nation with all he's had to deal with up there. But you won't hear about it on SportsCenter.

1. Nothing not to like about Ed Cooley. Ed's teams play tough.

2. The Dunkin' Donuts Center is a very difficult place to play for the visiting team. The Providence kids are a rowdy group that are pretty much on top of the court under the basket.

Their student section is actually usually pretty weak, but still a tough place to play

heather pretty much wrecked any chance for me to drive up there for the game

Same for me regarding any thought I had of driving there too. Now I'm concerned about a supposedly bigger storm headed our way on Sunday. I hope these weather forecasters are as wrong about that as they have been about just everything else.

Plus Connecticut and New England has been getting hammered with more snow than here on LI over the past few years.

2nd worse to DePaul.
Papers up here are always ripping them.

Win the next game on the schedule, worry about the rest later.

That being said, i think the team needs to be at least 50% in conference games to have a legit shot, even if they are hot during the last 1.5 mos of the season.
