Second half of the conference schedule

Well we have hit the halfway point of conference play at 3-6. The losses to Providence and at DePaul standout to me as games we could/should have won (at 5-4 we would have been in position to realistically finish 11-7). It certainly appears now that we are playing much better than earlier in the season and should have a good second half. Normally 6-3 would be a good way to finish conference play. However digging out from the deep hole that we are in may make a fantastic finish necessary in order for us to have a shot at the tournament. (Of course there is always the chance to win the Big East tournament.)

Here are the remaining games on our schedule (see below). Four of our five home games are against teams that have already beaten us. Of our four remaining road games we are likely to be underdogs in at least three of those games. That all being said we are very capable of winning any of these nine games if we play at our best. Here is hoping that we can rise to the occasion and get on a run to have a great finish.

2/4 At Providence
2/9 Vs. Creighton
2/13 At Seton Hall
2/16 Vs. Georgetown
2/18 Vs. Butler
2/22 At Villanova
2/25 Vs. Xavier
3/2 Vs. Depaul
3/8 At Marquette

I think 6-3 or 7-2 is the best that can be expected. I think they can win the Big East tournament. Creighton will be the toughest game.

Here's my guess:

@Providence (L)
Creighton. (L)
@SetonHall. (W)
Georgetown. (W)
Butler. (W)
@Villanova. (L)
Xavier. (W)
DePaul. (W)
@Marquette. (L)

18/13 overall and 8/10 in Conference heading into the BigEast Tournament. St.John's will likely need 3 games in the BigEast Tournament to get an invite to the NCAAs.

Marquette won't beat us.

Andrew... Are you familiar with Marquette's home win/loss record ?

Butler is great at home as well. I just don't think this Marquette team is very good. They looked awful today.

I think we are capable of winning any of the games remaining..We are also capable of losing more than a few of them. We're still inconsistent in most games.

I also don't believe Creighton is a automatic loss for us. The game is at MSG.. Hopefully homecourt advantage can be held. I seriously doubt McD will have 39 points again and maybe he doesn't get the homecourt no whistles when he hooks his man to the hoop..

Providence got him in foul trouble and we need to do that at MSG.. Of course, Wragge won't have 3 points again either but, the key will be our going strong to the hoop like we did today. Creighton guards can be beat off the dribble and don't seem capable of blowing by our guys.

We have a shot but, must first deal with the Friars.

If we win at Providence I think we beat Creighton by double digits. And I say that after not even having 1 beer today

7-2 and two wins in big east tournament should get us dancing...anything less will be a long shot.
A lot of things will need to play out but I think that the magic number for us is 22 wins, to just be in the discussion. At some point victories over Creighton/Villanova need to be in the equation.
It is tough to get an at large bid without signature wins.
Otherwise, there is always the winning the BET route.

Agree re: Creighton...great player...good, not great team...we will beat them

I think we'll go 7-2 to finish the regular season (10-8) 20-11. A deep run in the Big East tourney gets us in.

One thing the Ncaa looks at is how teams are playing at the end of the season. I agree w you if we go 7-2 and make the finals we will be in. It is not so far fetched if we keep improving. Have to start w a W at Providence.

If we have any chance of making some real noise this year we need to win 3 of the next 4 games. We'll probably be dogs in all of them except maybe gtown.
