I wanted to start by saying thank you for your continued support of St. John’s Basketball. We are grateful for you and want you to know how important you are to our program.

College athletics is changing every day at a rapid rate and we are doing everything we can to keep up with the changes. With the proposed House v. NCAA settlement and the anticipating decisions to be made regarding Revenue Sharing, we need to do everything we can to financially compete in this new era of college athletics. As these new policies are expected to go into effect next year, we need to be ready for how they will impact our St. John’s student-athletes and department.

Due to these changes, St. John's Athletics will be undergoing a full reseat of season tickets at both Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden.

This will take place in the Spring and Summer of 2025 and will include a reallocation of all season ticket holder seat locations based on a number of factors which will be explained below.

We are aware that this will raise many questions. Some we have answers to now, and some we are working towards as we navigate this process. This is also not a new initiative at St. John’s; we have done this before. Now is the right time to announce this process and move forward in light of this historic pending settlement affecting college athletics nationwide.

You may be wondering, "Why are you telling me about the reseat now?" First, this process takes time and we want to make sure this doesn't come as a surprise. Second, we are trying to be as transparent as possible, especially to loyal and longtime supporters of the program, and understand that change can be difficult.

For starters, the seat reallocation process will be based on the University's Priority Points System.

How does the Priority Points System work?

Points are earned by:
1. Number of consecutive years you have been a men's basketball season ticket holder at St. John’s;
2. Contributions to St. John’s Athletics and to the University;
3. Consecutive years of charitable giving to St. John’s; and
4. Contributions to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for St. John’s student-athletes;

Priority points for this year have also not been finalized, so fans can still donate to St. John’s Athletics, the University, or one of our NIL collectives to receive more points. Point totals will be calculated on May 31, 2025.

We want to ensure everyone understands what is going to happen and we kindly ask you to manage your expectations. We want to ensure that this tedious process is conducted transparently and accurately.

Throughout this process, we will work closely with an independent consultant to ensure that we have the correct process in place to complete a reseat accurately.

Another one of many questions you may be asking is, "What can I do now to ensure a smooth process and get the best seats possible?"

Fill out the form below to update all of your contact information. We will make sure this is updated in all of our systems. There will also be a place for you to ask any questions you might have about the upcoming reseat process. Please ask away, and we will answer them at a later date.

For more information on how to donate to St. John's or to learn more about how you can support NIL at St. John's, please email redstormsports@stjohns.edu.

Again, thank you for your support of St. John’s Men’s Basketball and we hope to see you at a game soon!

Go Johnnies,

Edward M. Kull

Worth noting that a lot of other colleges do this and it may be necessary given the current landscape, but it still sucks for many fans.

this reads to me (not having any past experience as i am a recent STH).... a hefty increase in price for those "good" seats....

Kull knows demand is gonna be there with Success this year... I am sure they raise the price quite significantly for the seat backs at CA and sideline seats at MSG and not see any drop off in sales...

hell... i might not be able to afford to sit with these bums in 114...

If they are going to shift around all of us long time STH's, the least that they can do is provide us with seatbacks installed this Summer in Queens.

I get why they are doing this but it may hurt people like myself, who are longtime season ticket holders who are stretching the budget just to get their season tickets, and don't have extra to donate to NIL. Family has had season tickets for a long time, excellent seats at MSG and exact seats at CA since we have had our tickets.

I had already heard about this through the grapevine but just received the below in an e-mail.

A Message to Season Ticket Holders from Ed Kull

Have seen plenty of "enjoy this season" messages ICW other subjects here, like future coaches, recruits, injuries, etc. But with this message from Kull, we truly should enjoy this season, since it seems many of us will not be $ea$on Ticket Holder$ in the future.
Bingo

Ticket Exchange 25-26 Thread is gonna be POPPIN! lol

I think this is the height of greed and I’m disgusted. Many of us have been loyal season ticket holders and have suffered through years of irrelevance and a lousy product. The moment we appear to be enjoying some prosperity — and it’s still early days - we get this email suggesting our seats may be taken away from us.

I am not an alumn (most of my family is) and thus have not donated to the school. I am, however a life long diehard fan and have been a season ticket holder (two seats) for nearly 15 years at significant expense. I purposely maintained my seats during COVID even though I didn’t attend games for a year so I could maintain my seats.

If they take my seats away I am done with this program.

I am with you all the way! I am a season ticket holder with 3 seats in section 107 row 13. When I purchased these seats Melissa informed me that those are my seats and nobody could claim them going forward! These seats with CA cost me $3700. If they decide to raise the prices for those seats seats I guess I understand that but to tell me that someone else is going to have first dibs on those seats next year based upon what they contribute to the program is utter bullshit!!!! If it come down to that they can keep their season tickets and I will just leave for my other home in Florida earlier than usual! You can take that to the bank!

They take into account how long you’ve had tickets, so if you’ve had them for 10 years, it’s equivalent to a $1,000 donation; 20 years is $2,000, etc. But ultimately people that donate more have priority. Idk, but it seems fair (though happy to change my mind). I also don’t think there will be major moves since you’ll still be within your plan (gold, silver, etc.).

It is nice getting to know the people in your section and stuff. But I also think it makes sense to open seats up for people who donate a lot, since money buys the players, coaches, etc.

Putting aside the bad grammar, what exactly does Kull mean by this? School is going to start paying the players directly?

With the proposed House v. NCAA settlement and the anticipating decisions to be made regarding Revenue Sharing, we need to do everything we can to financially compete in this new era of college athletics.

I believe the impetus for this is not our on court success and not greed , but the fact that replacing bleachers with seatbacks will reduce capacity in that section by as many as 500 seats. Some folks will be moved out of that section and they have to establish a way to do this.

It appears they are building a formula to do this that is broader than in the past, including university donations as well as NIL, and consecutive years as season ticket holder. I would think that total years as season ticket holder may be fairer but a lot of long ago season ticket holders recently resurfaced while other sat through the lean years as long as Moses was in the desert.

All i know is that being a season ticket holder since George Johnson, of all the courtside folks only 1 or 2 were around that long. The rest wouldn't know George Johnson from Magic Johnson. Then again, those folks largely have donated 7 figures or more. Still it sucks but that's life.

I dont think this is a deliberate money grab at all, just a way to find seats for 500 displaced fans without pushing up 2nd tier fans who've been around longer and contributed more.
