Season Goals

This season is already a success. There has been a great deal of improvement from the beginning until now. The young guards, Lovett and Ponds have exceeded expectations and continue to get better. Tariq Owens hasproven himself to be a valuable member of the team, contributing in many ways. Bashir is plaaaying within himself more and buying into the team concept. Mussini has adapted to his role, come off the bench and make shots. Darien Williams for someone who has not played in over two years has been a revelation. Amar gave us some good minutes yesterday when we needed them. Malik Ellison has yet to understand his role on this team is not to try to be the Man but to play hard defense and be a facilitator.
I saved Kassoum for last because of difficulty he has been having this season. However, the past few games it seems as if he is making strides. His play this year has been disappointing but I am not giving up on him. There have been flashes where he shows the type of player I hope he can be on a consistent basis during his last two years here. Let's remember that he reclassified so that he could come here early when we desperately needed players.
To me, the season is already a success and everything that happens during the remainder of the season is just icing on the cake.

Agree with all, but if the team cannot pick up at least one win vs Providence, Georgetown, at Marquette and at Butler that would be disappointing. We are better than Providence and should win that game at home, despite the Friars having the revenge factor going for them. Georgetown may not be a good matchup for us, but it's at home and it would be very nice to win that game. Butler and Marquette are both better than us, and both are on the road, but neither is an impossible matchup. One win is baseline, two is the hope.

However I agree that the important thing this year was to do the things in your post and to build towards next year, and on that front we have met our goal.

Just a terrible shame the team dropped a few wins early in the year, that may well cost them an NIT bid which would be valuable experience. Playing 2 games in the BET and making the NIT and getting a game or two there would be hugely helpful for both program rep and for team development, IMO. They're in position to do that now, just gotta close the deal.

7 wins in conference would be an amazing turnaround , and be just 2 wins off .500. It would teally show we are a team on the move. 6-12 was my low water mark for this squad so anything above that represents really great prospects for next season

By the way, i didnt think anything over 7 wins was possible, and now it is, so kudos to you
Guess you weren't a math major, huh? 7 BE wins means 11 losses and 4 games under five-hundred. ;) :)

Look in the mirror buddy. 7 wins is 2 wins off of 9, which is .500. :)

Was not a math major but was very good in math but that was a very long time ago. Just not the new math or should I say alternative facts math. ;)

LMF said: "We are better than Providence and should win that game at home, despite the Friars having the revenge factor going for them."

I agree. However, we also have a revenge factor, in that Cooley supposedly had a dust-up with Coach Mullin in the hallways after the game. The players should remember that. "Nobody messes with our coach."

My position weeks ago was that we are as good as or better than Providence, Seton Hall, Georgetown and Marquette and better than DePaul, and thus we should win at least 6 games by sweeping DePaul and splitting with the other 4, and that adding the Butler win made for a baseline of 7.

So far we succeeded in the DePaul sweep, made the split with the Hall, beat Marquette at home, and beat Providence on the road. And not coincidentally at the moment we are ahead of all 5 of the teams on my list (we are ahead of Marquette on the tiebreaker at the moment since we beat them).

As stated I think we have a very good chance to beat either Georgetown or Providence at home, and maybe both. And I don't think its impossible that we find a win on the road against either Butler or Marquette, though i wouldn't bank on those.

So I see 7 wins minimum, 8 possible, even 9 is not out of range though it's a long reach. Coming off of a 1 win conference record last year, that's a pretty damn good spot to be in.

As Paultz said, keep everyone, add Simon and Clark, and find a mobile big to add to the frontcourt and this team could make some noise next year.

A successful season for me would be watching the analysis of NCAA tournament bubble teams over the next few weeks and not having a loss to SJU identified as a "bad loss".....

Finish off PC, get revenge against Gtown, win one of the road games (Marquette/CU/BU).

9-9 after going 1-15 a year before. Season is a success.

We catch fire in the BET, Nova gets knocked off, and we dance. Season is a big, big success!

Win every game from here on ,get unbelievable hot win BET , get stupendously hot play NCAA and go to final 4. Season gigantic, gigantic and big success.

It is possible.

These are the goals:
1. Finish 9-9 in conference (minimum)
2. Wn BE tournament
3. Win national championship on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Mussini.
4. Have Fun do a Q&A with Mussini
5. Have posters argue whether Mullin or St.Jean designed the last play for Mussini
6. Have posters worry how a measly one point win in a national championship game will affect recruiting
7. Have posters say Mullin should be fired if he can't dress more like Jay Wright
8. Have posters discuss where to go for the celebratory lobster rolls

Anything less, and the season is a pure, unadulterated, seismic bust.

You left out Kranmars returns to his seat next to Ralph in section 114.

I am uncertain I can regain my standing in order to re-enter what is akin to the SJU fan illuminati.

You're the co- founder of 114. Bobble head night being planned for next year.

I shared a train ride with Ralph a few weeks ago. It must count for something. Ralph is one of those all time superfans who doesn't post on here.

If you look at Joe Lunardi's current bracket you will see how hard a schedule we had.

Teams currently in the tournament

Wins
Butler
Syracuse
Marquette
Seton Hall

Losses
Villanova (2)
Xavier (2)
Creighton
Seton Hall
Butler
Minnesota
Michigan State
VCU

Games Remaining
Butler
Marquette
Creighton

Wouldn't be shocked to see the dreaded LIU win their conference tournament.

Some people are speculating only 4 Big East bids this year. But we've had some surprising wins, as I suggested we would when we were in the dumper. It's just been so much better than we thought it would be. Credit to our guys for not giving up.

The Big East was expected to be top heavy this year, but with the Watson and Sumner injuries, its turned into a pretty weak year for the big east overall, unfortunately

You should buy your red suit now, Jack, while they are reasonably priced. :)
