Season Goals

Jones might have been a better keeper than Amar but, put that in context.. Amar did leave but, came back, if you recall. Jones had a lot of time here , with Lavin and Mullin for 1 year to show something and other than that 1 game last year against Marquette, I Think, didn't ..

Anyone think Jones would have gotten a lot of looks with Ellison and Ahmed in the game? Doubtful.

we beat G-Town.

I know people will say that it's already a success, and that's peobably true.
I just want Mullins to get his first B.E. Tourney win.

Next year I'll say atleast the NIT or bust, no more counting wins.

agreed, I think just one win in the BET (and against Georgetown no less) would be a huge boost to how this season is measured.

Anyone know how many double digit scoring games we got from out bigs this year? Less then ten? Yakwe had 1, Owens and dwill had a few each. But yea we couldn't have used a PF who averaged 11 and 7.

Sima 2

Yakwe 1
D Will 2
Ali B 0

It's a push. Pretty pitiful really.

And Delgado had over 20 double doubles and leads the country in rebounding. We need some help up front and I mean more than just Clarke.

IMHO this season met almost all of the goals that could have been reasonably expected.

- Play .500 against the bottom half of the league
- Find a win or two against the top half of the league
- Start to establish a homecourt advantage
- Start to develop an identity on offense and defense
- Learn how to continue competing when things aren't going your way in a game
- Learn how to close out games and win
- Win a tournament game

It would have been nice to win that last game vs Providence. The fact that nobody on the team showed up to play that day except Ponds was a disappointment, and points to some of the ongoing development that is needed. That was the worst game I've seen since early in the Norm era.

It's also a shame that the team dropped at least 3 winnable games early in the season, because that cost them an NIT bid. It would have been very helpful for development for them to get to play at least a couple of games in the NIT.

However, all in all they pretty much nailed the LMF Season Goals from the first post on this thread. Now we just have to keep who we have, get Simon and Clark into the mix, and find a big. You would think that with that we erase the 3 or 4 bad losses, go from 7-11 in conference to perhaps 10-8 in conference, and that makes us at the very least a bubble team next year.

[And yes, the fact that this is a wrap-up post means that I am giving us zero chance vs Villanova this morning.]

Remind me of this if I am ever in trouble and I call you in need of legal representation. :p

If I remember correctly, many posters, myself included, had us in the 15-17 win range. Some had more, few had 14, which is where we ended up. So the season overall came close to expectations. Considering the team's deficiencies on defense and on the glass, it seems amazing they did as well as they did in conference games. Our season came within an inch or 2 of ending yesterday, on, what else, an offensive rebound by Georgetown.

Georgetown has some talented players, and excellent athleticism, height and strength. But I would rather be us than them going forward, as we know what needs to be fixed, while their woes are more difficult to address. Just find me one player that can throw his weight around, rebound the ball and defend a big, and our win total will increase. Team will win more games on the addition of Clark and Simon alone, and the natural maturity of the others. So a bubble team is certainly within reach next season.

Whatever it is, you're guilty.

I never thought I'd be happy with 14 total wins, but after last year, I'm thrilled.
Everyone know this year was just about improvement, and nothing much more.

Last time we should be accept 14 or less wins.

Next year I expect atleast a NIT appear (with Lovett or without Lovett.). NIT is only baby steps.
I'm willing to do baby steps only because of Mullin, the only reason.

2 absolute needs for next year:
Get a 6-11, 260 BEAST, and hire a Defensive coach will ya?

Looked back at some of the early non-conference losses. I think we could have had 4 more.

Excellent, poignant, thorough LMF
AND WE IMPROVED
Two examples of our forward motion and progress:
1.This March team absolutely beats LIU and Delaware State!
2.Chris is getting that eagerness to win right here at this place, this time, with recruits as good as he was

As the Chambers Brothers sang, apt for SJU and what's ahead, "people get ready, there's a train a coming, don't need no ticket, just get on board..."
all the best
