Good one!
Just thinking. ......thank God Kofi is not going to South Carolina. Imagine a win where Cockburn leads Gamecocks to big win?[/quote] Newspaper headline " Cockburn leads Gamecocks to Hard Win "

I don’t know how you can possibly put a positive spin on losing a scrimmage game to Rhode Island! Quality teams don’t lose these type of games albeit a scrimmage game! Again I sincerely hope I am wrong, but if I am not Cragg needs to end this experiment at season end!

"there's a lot of Cocks in the building tonight"
"which Cocks will stiffen in the win"
"who has the bigger Cock (fan)base"
"which Cock are you pulling for?"

This Board is fixated on ‘Gamecocks, Peacocks, and Burning Cocks’!
Unhealthy, I say!
Better to focus on our Johnnies, or great Puddy Cats, one or the other...!
Lol.

Examples of how meaningless exhibition results can be:

2009-10: Syracuse loses to Le Moyne
Orange: 30-5, 15-3, Big East regular season title

2016-17: VCU loses to Queens
VCU: 26-9, 14-4, NCAA tourney

2017-18: Auburn loses to Barry
Auburn: 26-8, 13-5 ties for SEC title

I have been an diehard SJU fan since 1968! I hope to God That I am over reacting!

Point taken but all those programs were established winners, we are established losers. Would be nice to start a winning culture sooner rather than later. Not as bothered by the result as the reaction to it by some fans. Hopefully the players and coaches use it to resolve to work harder and get better which is much more important.

The Dream Team lost their first scrimmage to a team made up of college all stars. Lost by 8 points. Nothing more needs to be said regarding the total lack of importance of the result of a practice game.

According to Coach K, Daly threw the game intentionally. Best part here is K in contrast to Hurley (who believes in the Easter Bunny) AND perhaps a lesson that Dream Teamer Mullin learned.

Looks like our very own Ron Linfonte was the trainer of the college team, at least going by the still photos.

No doubt, too much has been made of our 85 - 79 loss to URI in the now infamous scrimmage.
It shouts out, however, how much this Board craves success for the team, and how mindful we are of our recent history.
We cannot quite make ourselves believe that 'this' season will be the 'game-changer' for the program.
But, it will.
Magical may be a fantasy, but a very successful season with a couple wins (+?) in the NCAAs would be a great exclamation point on our reemergence to relevancy.
Let the games begin.

What is a logical reaction to the URI loss from a win starved fanbase used to underachieving despite plenty of talent? If you look at the scrimmage and say it literally means nothing you are wrong. It's an early indication of our team that thankfully does not count. I feel a lot better after seeing several major upsets in scrimmages this year, but being able to say don't make a big deal over the result implies that we will do much better when the games count. I'm not sure Mullin has earned any benefit of the doubt to this point. That's the issue. If he had a history of success then many more fans would have said no biggie. At the same time, I'm glad it's over and I still expect an NCAA type season. Can't see Heron having anywhere near that type of game ever again this season.

Heard we broke up our team into 2 teams yesterday and had a scrimmage against each other. One side won and the other side lost. Jesus we cant even get above .500 playing ourselves

And to make matters even worse, both Chris and Mitch were sitting on tables while they coached their squads.;) :) :eek:hmy: :
