Savon Goodman, SF - UNLV

Our athletic style of play should attrack Savon. Can join Hooper in 2013; one penetrator and one shooter.

Goodman is more of a player who makes his bones on the blocks (rather than a penetrator). I'm not saying he can't facilitate, but that isn't particularly his game.

I've been watching this kid closely since around February because I always had a feeling he'd like our program because his style of play mirrors to DJ Kennedy's. I think we have a great chance with this kid. When it boils down, if he chooses 2012, I think it comes down to Temple and us. People speculate he is Temple bound but I think he will like our program best.

I've never seen Goodman, but I have in my head an image of a healthy Rob Thomas. Reasonable, or not even close?

I had a chance to watch him last summer, LJSA. He's more of an interior guy, and that is where he'll do most of his damage. He's a decent ballhandler, but he'll be relied on in the paint.

He is a great at defense. I saw the Elite 24 piece about him on ESPNU, and he has the individual trainer that was a trainer for Wayne Ellington and Tyreke Evans. Goodman is an incredible defender who is being trained to score the ball, to make him an all around threat. I'm sure if we get him he'll look a lot like Pointer did year one. Only Goodman will score much better

The trainer is like Tyreke's brother or something

I could see where someone would think that after hearing the phsyical aspect of Savon's game, but I think they are quite different. I don't think Rob--although some will vehemently disagree--ever had that elite explosion. I always saw him as an older kid that physically bullied kids younger or the same age as him because he was like a 20 year old man when he was 16.

Savon is strong and he's explosive. I think he's a pro if he is in fact a legit 6'7. He's just a competitor...he won me over when his ANC beat Findley. I think he went for something like 24 and 16. 16 rebounds for a team that had both 6'9 Rakeem Christmas of Syracuse and 6'11 Malcolm Gilbert of Pitt--both a year OLDER--is just insane. Christmas had like two or three boards that game. He outrebounded Christmas regularly and led his team in boards regularly. That was some helluva frontline.

He's more like a Greedy Peterson.

UCLA emrging as front runner for Savon. Chances with him starting to fade, which doesn't matter if Chandler is elidgible.

I don't believe we were particularly going after him hard.

Isn't his game a lot like Muhammad? Guess he could figure Muhammad is one and done and than see more PT.

Thought CRgreen said something that if Goodman waits till 13 UCLA can't accept him because they don't accept those who couldn't qualify after HS.
