For those thinking of going. Heard there might be some special guests at the reception. If you already have a ticket I don't know the deal but call and I'm sure someone can help you out.
-------------------------------------------------
The Red Storm is coming to San Francisco! Led by Head Coach Steve Lavin, a proud Bay Area native, the Johnnies will be taking on the University of San Francisco on Tuesday, December 4, at 7 p.m. (PCT) at War Memorial Gym.

If you'd be interested in attending a pre-game reception prior to tip-off, in addition to the game itself, please call the Office of Alumni Relations at (877) 758-ALUM or e-mail alumni@stjohns.edu. Each ticket (which includes both the game ticket and pre-game reception) cost per person will be $25.

My Son and I will be going. I'm flying in and he is driving up from San Luis Obispo where he goes to school. I just contacted the alumni office and hope I can get in on the reception and seats with you guys, but if not we will be there wherever we can get seats.

Either way, am looking forward to seeing all of you who are able to be there.

Def don't have to twist my arm for both. Any ideas? I am not familiar with the area.

No idea. Hope LJSA or a local can suggest.

I'm open to suggestions as I'll be there from late Sat night on. Raiders game on Sunday, Golden State Monday and STJ Tuesday is my itinerary.

Right after the game we are going to meet up at the Tornado Pub. LJSA lives over there and says this is a cool place and it seems they have a great beer selection

LJSA& one of his buddies and Traczok and his wife and my girlfriend and I are going so far. The more the merrier

I remember that one local suggested Ireland's 32 a while back for a pre-game meeting, and I agreed that it was a good choice. The Pig & Whistle might be better choice, since it's closer to the gym. And for Redmen.comers flying solo, the selection of women will probably be better.

I'm sure there are some USF watering holes even closer, but I moved here when I was 28 so never really went to any of them.

Toronado is definitely on the divier side of things, so if cleanliness is more of a concern than interesting beer selection, then another choice may be in order. Pretty sure they have Pliny the Elder there, which seems to be a rare find and which beer fans seem to love.

anyone traveling with kids, The Exploratorium is well worth a visit. Not just displays, a lot of hands-on stuff:

http://www.exploratorium.edu/
(fun for adults too)

And for the adventurous who have some time you can get Pliny the Elder right from the source in downtown Santa Rosa (about an hour north of SF) at the Russian River Brewery. The place is always busy. About 20 minute north of that is Bear Republic in Healdsburg and another half hour north you can go to the original Mendocino Brew Pub in Hopland (at which point you are in Mendocino County) Fetzer winery is also nearby.

For Sonoma / Napa jaunts bottom line is that Napa is a LOT smaller than Sonoma. In Napa you have a lot of big name wineries very close together in one small valley. It is a lot more commercialized. You can traverse the Napa Valley on Hwy 29 (aka Main St in some parts) in about 40 minutes depending upon traffic. One of my favorite stops is Taylor's Refresher (really good burgers) but it is now called "Gott's Roadside" on Main St in St. Helena, but they had not changed the sign last time I was there.

Sonoma has multiple microclimates and destinations. The Healdsburg downtown area is the most similar to the commercialized Napa Valley. So if you want big brand/fashion this is the place. The rest is exponentially larger than the Napa Valley with a mix of family and small cult wineries and large commercial operations. There are a lot of great ones to visit but my favorite is St Francis on Hwy 12 near Kenwood.

And a trip to Bodega Bay is always nice. Beautiful area. The Church and School where they filmed Hitchcock's "The Birds" is still there just before you reach the ocean - the new movie with Anthony Hopkins looks good...

Great info !! My girlfriend and I are actually staying in Healdsburg this saturday and sunday. Pretty busy on sunday ( going to Williams Selyem winery on sunday but might have time for one other ) but saturday will probably have a couple of hours free so that Bear Republic place sounds like a good place

If you're a coffee drinker - Flying Goat has a location in the Healdsburg square area - the downtown where all the fancy shops are... Pretty good coffee. Bear Republic is walking distance from the Square. They are one of the micro brews that win all the awards. A friend of mine who started a microbrew in San Diego was practically starstruck talking about Bear Republic. As you may know, Russian River was voted best beer in the world recently. I was at a restaurant a few weeks ago in Kenwood and a pint of one of their limited edition was almost $40. The chef/owner told me not to bother so I got a Damnation instead...

There is also an Indian Casino fairly close by to Healdsburg called River Rock. Small by comparison to CT but if nothing else a nice drive.
