Those 2 played great toward the end. Dom is REALLY showing me something this stretch of games

Not too long ago , people were crapping on Dom saying he didnt show much improvement, blah , blah , blah. Where are those people now?

yes indeed they were wrong Lavin took his training pedals off & released a monster

Dom was once again in beast mode tonight. A double double and an all out stat sheet stuffing evening complete with making the play of the game. Great move deciding to tomahawk that fast break dunk which virtually assured him going to the line and made the flagrant 1 possible. Pretty soon his picture is going to go in websters under the word glue.

I was one that didn't think his jump shot could improve - which he clearly has improved it. He's making me eat my words and thoughts; and I'm happy to do it.

I said in the game thread...Pointer's free throws after the intentional foul basically won this game. Calm and swished...it was a beautiful thing.

Couldn't you just say this in the DePaul thread? But, yes, Sir Dom was my MVP again tonight and Karr woke up in OT.

Dom was smiling at the line. He knew he had those two. His confidence is soaring now and he combines it with balls-to-wall effort. Love the way he plays the game.

This is the first time that I've seen Sampson really stay with it, in a game in which he was not scoring a lot of points. He remained a factor by doing other things tonight, and then the points came for him in the OT. Huge step forward for him tonight, IMO.

I have to eat my crow...I didn't like Pointer all of last year and for most of this season. I thought he was very overrated and had zero offensive game. He is really proving me wrong. If left open he can nail a 3 every once in a while, and boy can he slam it down. The place was going absolutely insane after his 2 key dunks in huge moments. He's the kind of exciting player that makes you jump out of your seat...great guy to have. He was feeding off the crowd waving his arms asking for more noise which no doubt pumped him up. Plus he can rebound and defend well too...he is a very important glue guy on this team and I want him playing max minutes.

We got killed on the boards but were able to offset with only 5 turnovers. Outstanding.... kudos to Green and Branch on this stat. Got beat on the line again with more attempts.... this needs to improve. Harrison is getting beat up off the ball and getting no calls. Sampson needs to improve his jump shot technique, or if that is not possible at this point, shoot a minimum of 100 a day. Too inconsistent. I like that he recognized that last night and consciously went to the hoop. Nice balanced scoring with 5 guys in double figures. While I didn't think the foul on Pointer was intentional it didn't matter as he made two critical free throws.... we threw away the ball after point of interruption inbound to negate the advantage. Did burn some clock though. DePaul showed a lot of heart and Young is a helluva player. Both coaches did a very good job. Entertaining game. Glad we got the "W".

Obekpa did many things which don't show up on stat sheet but enjoyed his 5 blocks. Will he ever improve his foul shooting? I see no change in his technique. His inability to convert could really hurt us in a close game as he will get fouled by the better coached teams.

All 14-7 conf 6-3 could easily be all 17-4 conf 8-1 and NCAA bound. Still hoping we can qualify. I'm thinking we finish all 18-12 and 10-8 in conference

only problem with Sir Dom playing max minutes is foul trouble.

i loved how he called out the fans and asked for more noise.

It seems to me Pointer is climbing up to the level of Harrison and Sampson - as far as energy and value.
one never knows which player will blossom - reminds me somewhat of Willie Glass and Billy Goodwin.

I forget how high he was ranked our of HS. Anyone recall?

thanks

Dom' fg pct is incredible over the last few games. He hit another 3, and he's not just jacking up shots, but taking high percentage tries.

Bingo. His efficiency and shot-recognition have been off the charts since the first few games of the season. He's now at 57% for the season, and is shooting almost 70% since the Fordham game (11 games), with no games under 50% shooting over that stretch, which is incredible consistency. For a player whose primary value is what he brings on the other end of the floor, on the backboards, and in terms of his overall energy/athleticism/motor intangibles (and it's huge value), getting this kind of efficient production on the offensive end is a major bonus. He is a very, very real talent.

At some point, I think ESPN had Dom ranked as high as 34, which made Dom the highest ranking recruit of the 2011 class, but I recall the rankings shifted around a lot, so not sure if the book closed with Dom being at that number.

ESPN had Pointer at #25 in their final rankings.

He was also the highest rated player in our 2011 class, per the RSCI.

I was one who said a few weeks ago that Dom's ranking wasn't justified. And it still isn't IMO.

But he has proven me wrong as he is a kid that is full of intangibles. I was premature in accessing him because of the talent that was in his recruiting class. In the era of one-and-dones, my expectations of him were way too high.

But the fact remains that his ranking was just a number. A number which is irrelevant now.

If Dom plateaus as a Senior, we will be in very good shape.

If he can become our poor man's Victor Olapido (Indiana University), we all will be smiling.
