Rutgers Suspends Mike Rice

I finally stopped laughing long enough to post. Rice is theatre of the macbre. It was only a matter of time before he went overboard. If you look into his eyes, he can cause your face to peel off. Rutgers and Rice are perfect fod each other.
Screw them and their many years of losing in their new conference.

Agree: Goodbye and good riddance. They'll be Big 10 bottom-feeders in both football and basketball for years to come.

I agree Jersey is known for it Tomatoes/corn, mobsters & roided Guidos at the shore Not Rutgers sports lol

Whoever changes the light bulbs at the EMPIRE state building needs to be fired asap for coloring a NY landmark for the losing Garden State university!
Thats really retarded like giving the NJ giants a SB parade when NY collects nada on its naming rights
bloomy is a real soda jerky

There are no naming rights. The legal corporate name is New York Football Giants, Inc. Whether they should have a parade here or not, is a different story.

As far as ru goes, always hated those snobs who always think they are better than they are. The snobs who bad mouthed the Big East when it was formed and when it took off and became the great league it was, then begged to get in for years before finally being allowed in. Now running to a new conference. If the administration every had a brain on running an athletic program with their resources, they might be dangerous, alas the snobbish attitude gets in the way and they are only a danger to themselves. Good riddance.

Read an article that said Rice threw basketballs at players' head during practices.

Reminds me of an incident with the varsity baseball coach at my high school. An irate father stormed my office to inform me that his son was hit with a baseball thrown by the coach. Of course the coach was insulted that he had to attend this meeting. It seems that the young ballplayer did not follow the coaches instructions thus he decided to throw a baseball which hit him in the leg. To my shock the moronic coach tells the father he will have to remove his son from the team. No way Jose! Instead, I along with the Athletic Director removed the coach.

Mike Rice is a little over the top but this is an example of the wussification of America. Rice is finished. This gives every player that doesn't like him an opportunity to get him fired. The next time he throws a kid out of practice or yells at one the AD's door will be knocked on and Rice is done.

THe Name New York is not owned by any sports team but NY State or NYCity mayor koch passed a law to prevent
the Jeresy jets & giants from wearing & selling the NY on their unis etc. becuase they left the state & forfited the name rights.
that law expired so the jets & giants returned to NY on their helmets etc.
They both should be sued for $compensation by ny for the use of the name period.
NJ is the loser in respect but NY loses in taxes, jobs etc
Bloomberg illegally gave the NJ giants a parade in the city w nyers tax!$ the mayor is a fraud that bought a another 4 yrs of office by bribing the city council to change a citizen voted in law.
Koch refused to give the 86 & 90 sb giants a parade bec. they played in NJ god bless him for doing it & saving the citys money screw bloomy

Umm, Rice brought this on himself.

Money saving move by the school. There is little chance that he comes back next season, and hard to fire the guy over outrageous practice behavior, so they fine him, suspend him, and save $50K in the process. He's a goner.

Do I see Danny Hurley in the wings?

I think it would look really bad on him, if he were to leave a major rebuilding project like URI, after just one season. That doesn't sway some coaches, though.

Is leaving after just two years, like he did at Wagner, really that much better? Besides, he'll be able to give everyone the same coach-speak we've heard over and over again: I've laid a solid foundation to turnaround the program: I'm leaving a program that's much stronger than when I came here; I've loved my time here and am only leaving because it's my dream job in my home state; blah, blah, blah.

1) I don't think Hurley wants to walk into that black hole of a program. They have NEVER been to an NCAA game,

2) I think Hurley more likely to end up at Seton Hall once they fire Willard. I don't see Willard building any real talent base at Seton Hall. He's a terrible recruiter and has already shown he doesn't have the demeanor to handle this job after lashing out at piratecrew.com members at a recent alum event.

3). Rice is a fool of a coach and RU a horrible program. While I think te guy actually can coach, he's a nutcase. I've had crazy coaches before in different sports. None of them ever attempted to throw something at my head.

Both Rice and Rutgers deserve each other.

I thought Northwestern was the only BCS conf team to never dance?

Short of winning a conference title though, Hurley took Wagner about as far as they could go.

He's got a long way to go before he's anywhere near that point at URI.

You may be right, but I think Danny Hurley, like any other ambitious young coach in his position, has zero loyalty to URI (or any other school he has zero ties to other than a contract, or to recruits), and would bolt without hesitation if a job on a bigger stage (and more money, of course) were to be offered to him, especially if were home-state Rutgers, which would allow him to justify the move. Ideally, I would think his "dream job" would be Seton Hall, but at this point Willard's job seems more secure than Rice's. (Besides, like our own Fran Fraschilla, he could always leave one dream job for another should the Hall position open up down the road.)

RU has been to the dance. They were undefeated in 1976 in the regular season and went to the final four. Last NCAA appearance was 1991. Not a great program, but has had a small bit of success.

We edged them, 67-65, in a very exciting, very close 1979 Sweet Sixteen game. They had a tough team, led by center James Bailey.

Forgive me for not being clear. I meant since joining the Big East.
