[quote="Paul Massell" post=301699]Seems to me that St. John's is one of those games that their program gets up for and conversely we often don't take seriously enough. Same goes for a few other schools: Seton Hall, Providence come to mind.

Good point Paul and agreed. Needless to say we haven't been nearly good enough not to take any team seriously enough, let alone one that might be extra up for the game and in their arena.

Hopefully team views this as a statement opportunity and a chance to go to Brooklyn with some momentum next week as Paultz referenced. Sounds crazy to say, but we'll know a lot more about how good our conference record needs to be to have compelling case in March in a little over a week. Critical 3 game stretch!

Chris Mullin said Shamorie Ponds is fine. Had knee issue against Bowling Green. #sjubb

The troops rally, key guys stay out of foul trouble, our guards successfully pressure theirs & Johnnies prevail by 6 points or so.

I guess I just didn't get as much out of his 14 minutes as most on here have. But coming off Lovett thing last year losing Keita for couple months has really not affected me much. I for one do not need rallying.

Rallying for Rutgers has less to do with Keita absence than SJU mediocre performances to date. First road test imo warrants some concentration and commitment at both ends of court.

Marvin Clark II on facing bigger players: “I’ve been doing it my whole life, honestly. I’ve been undersized at my position my whole life. It’s definitely different, but where I lack certain things, I have certain strengths and I’m completely confident in those strengths.” #sjubb

Clark is a warrior. Interesting to hear him acknowledge being an under sized big man. For a time it wasn't clear what he considered himself.

82 - 70 Rutgers. With Rutgers pulling away at the end after a close contest most of the way with their size just being too much to deal with in end.

I didn't realize how big Rutgers was until I looked at the link to the roster on Knight's post. This will be interesting.

wowwwwwwwww I seen what Andrew posted and figured to look.
Sorry but Roberts has to play atleast 20minutes. Kid is gonna have to be a big boy fast.

If I'm the RU coach I'm starting 7-0 275 Center - Junior
610 190 G/F Junior I'm go extreme and I'd put him in as a guard
Think they have 2 or 3 6'6 guards, one of them would be my other guard
6-10 255 F/C Freshmen
6'9 245 Forward - Junior

We better hit at a 60% clip because I don't see how we get many rebounds against that.

Not a good matchup for us before Keita injury and even worse matchup now. Would be nice if we actually ran into teams just as they lost key players but it's usually the other way unfortunately. As Paultz said though, the concern has more to do with how poorly we've fared against Rutgers to date than Keita being out. Both are concerns though. Big East is being shellacked by B1G this year for the most part. Nova gets absolutely demolished by Michigan and now Marquette being run out of gym by Indiana who can't miss if they tried. Definitely a down year for the conference...if we can't make moves this year we never will IMO.

Yes but it works both ways. Are these big oafs going to stick with our guards on defense? We're way more talented. Just because you have tall people doesn't mean they're talented. Reboudning will be a challenge so it will have to be an all out effort to attack the glass.

So now we judge teams on how many 7 footers they have. Since Rutgers was picked dead last in the B10 that means 14 teams in the B10 have more 7 footers than they do?

In college you could zone though, or did college change to be like the NBA?

Mix of very good size plus the very good coaching is worrisome. We are obviously more talented but then again BG was better coached and took us to the last second with 2 and 3 star kids. Rutgers always gives us fits going back to the old BE. This isn't your father's Rutgers, they actually have a decent roster and a great coach. Yes they got picked lower in the B1G but our conference is very down this year if you look at early results. Xavier, Nova, Marquette all overwhelmed. Hope we don't become latest victim.

I'm sure most teams in the BigTen has more size then us.
Yeah I know Tyrone Grant was the center at 6-7 on that team, but what's this teams hand quickness compared to that team? Everyone had quick hands on defense. And, why did we lose to osu in the elite 8???
Not because of Redd or Penn, we lost to their center Ken Johnson swatting away 12-13 balls.

To me they won that game because their big dominated, while we had no big.
What was Ken, 6-11?

So then why did the coaches pick SJU 4th and Rutgers dead last in the B10?

Let's be clear SJU should win this game, period. If they are going to be the team we think and hope they can be they should win, period.

I dont care how many 7 footers Rutgers has in 3 months they will be mired in a 10 game losing streak in the B10 and no one will care.

Go F'n win the game.
