@Rutgers, Fri. Nov. 16, 7pm, BTN / 970 WNYM

I don't have a good feeling about this game at all. I hope I am very wrong. As Mike Zaun said, well coached teams give us problems. Rutgers is well coached now, playing at the RAC , no Keita, Mullin's seemingly unwillingness to extend the bench at all, still have trouble defending the three, Lack of rebounding prowess and they have a lot of size, just seems like a recipe for disaster.
I just don't understand this "well coached teams give us problems". Which teams are not well coached?
Duke & Villanova last year ;)

Great game tonight. Sat behind the Rutgers bench and they were not happy. They came on with an overestimation of their talent and ability.

We shared the ball really well and obvoiously hit our threes at a high rate.

Biggest takeaway for me is more evidence that Heron is a real stud. He consistently abused whoever covered him.
If you were at the game could you go into more detail of the goings on behind the bench? Did you interact with the Rutgers fans? Did you enjoy their refreshment concession? Were there other St. John's fans there? TIA!
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic, but here goes. Spoke to a few. They were amped and couldn’t believe how well we played. One of the coaches wife was sitting in front of us. She frowned when she realized we were SJ fans.

There were other SJ fans scatttered throughout.

I just posted on another thread how much I enjoyed the atmosphere there. You definitely heard St. John's fans chanting late in the game.

Great stats frrom the game

Heron 27 pts, 6 reb
Figgy 23 pts, 11 reb, 4 ast
Ponds 8 pts, 4 reb, 6 ast
Clark 12 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast
Simon 10 pts, 9 reb, 3 ast

Perhaps the most interesting stat: We shot 32 treys and only 28 times from 2 pt range
Boy, how the game has changed through the years!!

An outstanding job, fellas
Keep up the great work!!
GO JOHNNIES!!!

You must live in nj. Any fans who lived through Thursdays snowy rush hour nightmare and traveled to nj from NY last night deserve medals

Yes the Rutgers board is comical right now. They thought they were beating us handily even before the Keita news.

Seton Hall board, as usual, is equally delightful. An entire thread devoted to the game. It's not Chris and Matt's fault that Heron or LJ didn't have an Uncle willing to accept a job from that snake Willard. They hate Mullin over there because his bowel movements get more attention than their consecutive tourneys.
As opposed to this board which is pretty much comical all the time. Or haven’t you noticed the hate for Mullin here? Rutgers is too big for us, best shooting team in the country, they have a real coach!! Oh, sorry, after watching them they stink!! But hey, we were really lucky that Heron and Figueroa fell out of the sky to us. Sorry, but any criticism of other boards is disingenuous to me with the clowns that dominate this one.
There are always those few here that will always come out with a lecture after a St. John's win to castrate and castigate anyone who ever spoke negatively about coach Mullin. I need not list them as they will become obvious in the next few hours.
You may have missed the last 20 years while in your coma but Mahoney, Jarvis, Roberts, and especially a guy named Steve Lavin all suffered "fans" criticisms before our favorite son came to save the day. One infamous fan. Yes the one with the clown face actually made a cottage industry on his private blog to hate, hate and hate Steve Lavin some more.
He chose to sut down his comical site because it became obvious that not including the COACH in his sardonic commentaries made his blog unreadable.
All those coaches did a great job. St. John's University, a heartless money grabbing institution, fired every one because the unappreciative fans on this site, Johnny Jungle, Holy Land of Hoops, and especially Big East Boards, unduly influenced their decision. Just think, if it weren't for the haters on this site in particular, Mike Jarvis would have a banner hanging in Madison Square Garden now having surpassed the greatest coach in school history.
You're right. Discussing the coach is very comical because it alone can lead to their firing.
Just curious. What did Liz have for dinner last night? How many craps did Chris take yesterday. Cuz you know, that stuff is really really important cuz we pay a guy 2 million a year which is like, a lot of money each month like at least 20 grand maybe more. Thanks for sharing, ya know, we want to hear more of that cuz um we are fans and deserve to know

Just remember in mid April SJU had neither locked up. Those two SAVED the recruiting class and may save this season.[/quo
Those two might help us with next years recruiting class, if we impress those elite 19 recruits this year.
These two could be the turning point for Mullin as coach here.
Every great coach has that one year that it all started to click for him, could this be Mullin's?
With Duke and then new coach Mike K floundering and missing on top recruits such as Chris Mullin - it was I believe Johnny Dawkins who helped turn their recruiting around!
Let’s get it on Red Storm.
Augment the staff and upgrade the recruiting!
That would be nice.

Brooklyn. So, relatively short ride. No traffic at all.

The RU fan next to me, OTOH, came all the way from Mt. Sinai LI (exit 63 on LIE). Nice guy,

That’s how up for this game they were. This was their version of the GT massacre we sat thru many years ago only not quite as bad.

Great fan you are.

Last night’s Rutgers game was the first opportunity I have had to watch St. John’s play this season.

I like the passive press which St.Jon’s used to slow Rutgers coming down the Court after made baskets. I hope they continue it during the season.

Amazing post!!
I also appreciate Logen post. It is accurate and any protesting to the contrary is just noise.
Thank you Logan, Al B, RMN and others - some opinions on this board are refreshing as was this W - which I was not sure we would enjoy.
Years - decades even - of lousy SJU results make each W this season that much sweeter!!!

That’s exactly what I said I liked about lavin’s Teams. That pressure to slow them down before hitting mid court really makes teams hurry their offense every time down and take bad shots. I too hope we keep that up. It works well for teams like ours.

Great point Otis. I thought the same thing watching the game. A couple of times it forced them to set up well into the shot clock. I do worry though if we commit some thoughtless fouls. With our lack of experienced depth fouls could be a problem if we are too aggressive.

I did not see the game but did view of the game clip .we shot the 3s great and our overall play was good. But we are soft inside and can see us having a problem with better teams who have a dominate center with a good supporting cast kudos to the team and staff for this win
