Rutgers Again

Rutgers only AAU member in Metro New York area who plays football just as Maryland is only AAU member in Metro DC playing football

Exactly why the Big Ten wanted both of these schools
Certainly, it was not for their outstanding football programs
The Big Ten Network keeps expanding its geographic base and will soon be on basic cable in the NY and DC metro areas
Both schools should be football bottom feeders for the foreseeable future

But if the Big 10 can build College Football interest in NYC it will be a big boom for their league and the $'s generated by the network. You will have some big time football programs coming into the area to play Rutgers. .AS we know it's about TV and $'s generated for the schools by the TV contract. It was a good move by both the Big 10 and Rutgers.
This realignment is not over. The super 5 conferences are looking to expand even more. ACC might be at risk; AAC is in trouble already. We shall see where it all goes.

I have to imagine that BC is next up. Boston/New England seems like too valuable a market to pass up. I think if the state of Georgia were further north Tech would already be in the Big 10. I guess they make a play for North Carolina? That would send shockwaves through the BB landscape. Louisville would fit geographically, but maybe not academically.

Before all of the recent reshuffling started, several pundits suggested that, eventually, there would be 4-5 super conferences with up to 16 teams each
It certainly looks like things are headed in that direction
I guess size really does matter :)

College football will NEVER be big in the Metropolitan area. ND is the only football school that gets even minimal ratings in this area. It is a pro-sports area. Little care about college football in the Northeast and that will not change in our lifetime.

Rutgers against anybody will get no ratings in fall against Yankees, Knicks, Mets, etc. etc. etc.

The Mets have generally no chance at the playoffs long before the College Football season starts. I know, I am die hard Met fan.

So do you switch over to college football? Do your chores on Saturday and watch the NFL on Sunday, it's the NY way!
