Tweet from Dick Vitale:

ACC source says ND could say YES to ACC -if football agrees to play 5/6 games in football vs ACC schools yearly! ND remains Quasi indep.

You know who loves Notre Dame...old people who are nostalgic about the 1940's. Old people love Notre Dame's traditional rivals like Michigan, Michigan State, USC, Navy, Purdue, and Boston College. An ACC schedule is not going to work.

If ND plays 5 ACC games they would still play Navy and USC (no brainers), and most likely Purdue and MSU.

Michigan and Stanford rounds out the schedule to 11 games.

Can also play schools like Purdue, MSU, UM, and Stanford 4 times each, every five yrs., and fill in the open yr. with schools in other geographic locations to keep the alumni happy.

For all intent and purpose they play 3 ACC schools this year: BC, Miami and Pitt (who will join the ACC next season).

If they do join a conf. would think Big 10 makes more sense (certainly from a geographic point of view) but maybe they think they would fare better in the ACC where the football is good, but certainly not great.

The B10 has previously indicated that it will not accept ND unless for all sports (including football).

is this the same nd football team that recently lost to tulsa and yukon?

Is this the same ND with a 5.5 BILLION endowment that needs a couple of extra million from a crap football conference like the ACC?
The ACC is just as desperate as the Big East to survive as a a major football conference and the ACC is obviously copying every move the Big East made in the past to do so......that includes giving ND a pass as an independent just to have the brand name associated with the ACC.

IF (a big "if" IMO) ND gets admitted to the ACC as a non football conference member  do you think that the ACC would then admit another non football conference member to balance the number of teams in each division?

if so, would St. John's be considered as entry into the New York metro media market?

IF ACC GETS IRISH,IT WILL BE PSYCH BLOW TO BIG EAST BEING A MAJOR CONFERENCE.......NEVER LIKED THIS BB ONLY DEAL THEY HAD...BENEFITED THEM ALONE....ACC BE WISE TO MERGE WITH BIG EAST,AND SET UP ROAD TO NATIONAL FB TITLES AS WELL AS ENHANCING BB..

NFT, buy they don't bring much at all to the table.

That DICK bleeds Carolina and Duke blue and is green with envy that the Irish (his daughters school) is not in the ACC.

ND might like the ACC as it is so weak they could win the title every year thus making their bid for a bowl bid very strong. It would also help their recruiting which has suffered because knowing you are on a team that will win the Conference is a big plus for the recruit who wants exposure. As many on this board know, I have been against ND from the start because they wouldnt let the BE teams play with their football and this is really one big thing that led to the BE break up starting with Miami. Now that they have their backs against the wall and see that being an independent will not lead to the pot of gold they suddenly want to play in a league. And of course not the BE. Why play in the BE when they were the ones who let you in to build what was at the time a junk basketball program. This is the kind of loyalty we dont need. Good riddance to ND, I dont care where they go and I hope they leave tomorrow.

Okay - before we lose our cool here let us think . . .

1. Dick Vitale is a shill for Espn who is in love with the ACC
2. ESPN - ruined the Big East - They told Syracuse and Pitt to leave
3. If Notre Dame did go (which they will not) they would lose bid time national label
4. NBC will retain the Irish and get The Big East in football and basketball

Is the part about ESPN advising Cuse to leave true? I thought that was just a rumor...
Curious if anybody has seen any specifics out there.

rumor has it that this is true notre dame to acc except for football

Yep, pretty much every source has it now.

Seth Davis ‏@SethDavisHoops
ESPN and Chicago Tribune reporting Notre Dame to ACC but not for football but will play 5 games vs ACC schools. Seismic.

1. Look for the ACC to add another team to balance out divisional play - perhaps a non football school. St. John's is not among the rumored ACC additions.

2. UNLV is the likely candidate for all sport addition to the Big (L)east.

3. The Big (L)east should consider should Xavier as replacement for Notre Dame.

I cant effining beleive this:http://deadspin.com/5942568/notre-dame-is-joining-the-acc

it's like the league is always on its heels..wtf!!

------------

Notre Dame is divorcing itself from the Big East to run off with the ACC, though the ACC's news release doesn't say when. Football is part of the deal, too, though not all the way:

The Irish will compete as full members in all conference sponsored sports with the exception of football which will play five games annually against league programs.

Pete Thamel of SI says a Notre Dame official told him the timetable is "very murky," since ND can't leave the Big East until 2015 without paying an exit fee. By playing a partial ACC football schedule, the Irish will not be eligible to compete for an ACC football title. More Thamel:

The move may cost the Irish some traditional opponents in football, as a Notre Dame official said that the school's top priorities in football scheduling moving forward will be to retain a West Coast presence — games against USC and Stanford — and the annual game with Navy. That means Notre Dame's games against some of its Midwest opponents could be in danger.

A source told Yahoo's Dan Wetzel that Notre Dame made the move because of football scheduling concerns, which Wetzel said were "igger than weakening of Big East." Oh, and now that the ACC appears to be done ransacking the Big East, it's raised its own exit fee to $50 million.
