Roster for this year

I also have visions of Felix occasionally driving opposing small forwards into flop sweat as his leaping surprises them and they don't have enough handle to deal with his quickness,

I too have some expectations for Felix. Think he is a better option than Dom.

I agree with this and your prior post about Thomas/Jones (I'll throw in the Delarosa bros) outweighing the loss of Sanchez/Sampson.

I'm not sure Lavin will give Felix the look, but there is no doubt in my mind he's a better option than Dom on both ends of the floor. I think he has star potential.

I'd like to believe that Thomas/Jones (plus Delarosa bros) will outweigh the loss of Sanchez/Sampson. But I don't know how you can make that math work. Sampson and Sanchez put up 20 points a game. Let's be really generous and assume that Jordan will add another 5-10 ppg this season. Where's the other 10-15 points going to come from?

You have to understand how poor their defense was as well. They would give up 3-4 straight layups at times to their men. Also, Sanchez was an awful rebounder with no range. Sampson was actually a really good rebounder that was too often out of position. Thomas will get plenty of layins off rebounds and open looks after he sets screens. The rest of those points will go to the guards.

More rebounds, less easy baskets, more possessions...

I feel like I read all the same posts prior to and during last year; I truly admire your unwarranted and unsubstantiated optimism. As i did last year. I hope you are right but ................

The problem since the 2011 season when Lavin rescued the program from
Norms ineptitude has been the very high roster turnover which every year causes chemistry problems.
Hopefully Jordan takes over as the general this year giving Harrison a chance to be the pure scorer he is meant to be, the lack of a really good wing players can be remedied by stellar guard play, but the real question is can the Della rosa family handle the big east are they overmatched? I'm not a big fan of the recruiting wars but maybe the experts on here can enlighten us on Della rosa ? Is he better than a rob werdann or closer to Tom Bayne in ability?

Keith Thomas who can we compare him to from previous sju teams?

Thank God Lavin "rescued the program from ineptitude".

He's a bigger version of Tyrone Grant although not as offensively skilled.

Felix is an excellent athlete but has done nothing to date on the court to make me think he can really contribute at this level
At least Dom has shown flashes that he can contribute, although he is often out of control
We have very capable guards and would be better off playing a 3 guard system along with Thomas and Obekpa
I would also like to see a little less of Greene and more of Branch playing with Jordan and D'Lo
For some reason, it seems that Lav has a man crush on Greene

True but felix has got nowhere near the opportunities that dom has been given. Doms gotten 20 minutes per game since day one. Im not sure felix has gotten 20 minutes in any single game.

The closest he came was 17 minutes at Georgetown, when Lavin started him, presumably as a lesson to Jordan. Felix went 1-4 in that game and scored 2 points.

But practiced well that week. :(

Are you trying to get me to break my computer?

Seriously though, I think it's true we need to see more of Felix before anyone can say they expect him to be a contributor.
He has had limited exposure, and when he has played he has shown a limited handle and limited shooting ability. That doesn't mean he can't contribute, it's just the signs haven't been great so far.

Until Felix improves his shooting he'll be another one of our athletic studs who can score only on fast breaks or put backs. Hopefully he has spent the summer taking mucho jumpers.

Really? There is no doubt in your mind that Felix is a better option than Dom both offensively and defensively?
What has he done to make you think that?

Dom is a negative. Anyone that is at least neutral can be better. Felix is always under control, doesn't dominate the ball, and plays a role. Dom does whatever Dom wants to do, whenever Dom wants to do it. He can't shoot or dribble and his defense is grossly overrated. Don't get me started on the lack of rebounding either.

Amen, Dom hurt us more than he helped us. Is it that hard to believe that felix could be a better option.

Still has to show me he can put the ball in the basket.

Exactly that's why I believe we will start with a three guard offense, having Branch as the first sub in. Obekpa and Thomas should handle the boards with Jones the first sub at forward.

I would expect close to zero from Joey and not a whole lot from Adonis, at least right off the bat. Adonis is big, slow and soft. He's got some decent skill sets but conditioning is going to be a key factor for him. He's going o have his hand full with any of the more athletic big men in the Big East. Watched him a lot last year. Haven't seen him over the summer but hoping he comes to school in better shape than last year. Pretty sure Werdann was MCAA. Adonis wasn't even close. Having watched both, no comparison coming out of High School IMO.

Same as those who touted Max as the answer to our outside shooting troubles. This in spite of the fact that he was something like a one star recruit coming out of High School and didn't see the light of day at Harvard.

I too expect zero from Joey and not because I am containing my enthusiasm but rather because he has never demonstrated any type of skill set that he can meaningfully contribute at any level , let alone in the new BE.
As for comparing Werdann and Adonis there is zero to compare , I repeat zero. Now hopefully Adonis will have the desire to get into great shape which in turn could lead to him Being a meaningful contributor a year or two down the road But not before.

+100

I know this is off topic but since someone mentioned Werdann...I wonder if Lavin would ever consider him for the bench. He has coached a number of years in the league and could be a good big man coach with ties to the programs history and the city.

Here is a pic that D'Lo posted on his Instagram today

Did Branch grow a few inches? He is taller than D'Lo and The same height as Felix

I don't know anything about their relative heights to each other, but I briefly met Harrison once. He's a big dude. I'm 6'1'' and I clearly was looking up at him - he looked close to his listed 6'4'' height. And Harrison typically looks like he's one of the shorter guys on the court. It just shows how huge Div 1 players are.

I ran into him once also and I am 6'2. He is definitely 6'4 and in great shape.

Don't know about the height, but it is nice to see D'Lo putting up pictures of the team hanging out together. Hopefully this will lead to better communication and chemistry on the court.
We may not have the most talent but the team is experienced. If we can play together and everyone accepts their roles, we may surprise some people.

Interesting beach photo. Can anyone name all the people in the photo? I think I can name most but certainly not all.

The ones I think I know:
On the far right 1) Adonis DeLaRosa, then 2) Joey DeLaRosa and then 3) Darrick Martin.
4) Harrison in the center, 5) Branch to Harrison's left, 6) Greene behind Harrison, 7) Dom behind Greene, 8. Obekpa with the hat in the back, 9) Felix to the far left.

Three I am not sure of:
1) person next to Felix with face blocked.
2) person with sunglasses next to Darrick Martin
3) Person behind Branch and Harrison.

Any thoughts?
