Roger Rubin / Harrison / Daily News

Where did this come from? Sanchez having eligibility issues? Aren't we aware of these issues before we offer a schollie?

Roger Rubin struggles to read game notes-

Lets set record straight. From Official STJ Basketball Twitter Account. Key words- REGARDING CLASSIFICATION

O. Sanchez, M. Bourgault will not participate tonight as both await separate eligibility rulings from NCAA regarding classification. #stjbb

What I cant figure out is: Why they cant play tonight if the only question is how many yaers of eligibility left. The rule makes no sense.

The article is stupid. Sanchez and Bourgault can certainly be key contributors, but their eligibility has no impact on Harrison. If Sanchez isn't eligible then the load falls to Obekpa, Jones, Pointer, Achiuwa (6'9"? hahahaha) and Sampson.

I am skeptical that Bourgault was ever going to see much floor time, other than as a situational spot-up shooter to stretch the defense and make them focus on a perimeter threat other than Harrison at times. But if he got floor time, then that would probably mean that Harrison was handling the ball, which frankly I disagree with. Greene and later Branch should be handling the ball leaving Harrison to come open for shots and to move without the ball.

Where you don't have any other options, I can understand taking a scorer and giving him the ball (Marcus Hatten, Dwight Hardy). But where you have players to work with, it just doesn't make sense to me. And I can't see Harrison handling the ball once Branch is eligible, anyway.

We shall see.

Play it safe rather than sorry.

If Gift plays in an exhibition he can't redshirt. Thats a new rule. So why bother risking anything with Orlando and Marco. Just don't play with fire.

What if this isnt resolved by the Detroit game? Than it starts being meaningfull, Although it would have been good for these newcomers to play in a scrimage to develop team chemistry.

It is already meaningful when 2 potential contributors, one potential starter is already missing 2 scrimmages. I'm hoping and pretty sure that the NCAA is cognizant of the fact that the first game is rapidly approaching. Hopefully we hear about it definitively before Detroit game.

Eff the NCAA...I just don't get it...haven't they been on campus since at least August? Why 3 months later is this even a question. Tired of the Effn NCAA

The NCAA was cognizant of the fact the scrimmages were approaching and they still didnt resolve the issue.

I too would rather see the ball in Branch's hands

Im wondering how mentally focused D'Angelo is.

Last year, his emotions on the court ran high. To his detriment at times. He picked up ticky tack fouls knowing full well that he was in foul trouble. He also had a tendency to launch 3s from well beyond the collegiate 3 point line.

With Moe going pro and this push to evolve him into a Dwight Hardy type of player, I'm wondering if he can get it together mentally on the floor.

He looks comfortable at PG but he seems (from the limited sample size) like he's unsure of when to go and when not to go. Like he tries to make a flashy pass instead of a regular pass from what I've seen. And he's still launching shots from way outside. And he kind of sulks when he gets pulled from the game.

The Concordia game will tell more and hopefully he starts.

I just don't know if he has the mentality to be a combo guard. And I don't know if that's even best for the team.

I'd much rather see him catch and shoot from someone else than trying to create.

I think he's more Jason Terry than Chauncey Billups.

The NCAA hates us. They ruined Pelle, Gathers, and Jakarr once for us. Now they are going to ruin Sanchez and Marco. That's 5 key players they are screwing us over with in 2 years. Why can't college basketball just start with NO drama? It's always something. Just commit, sign, and play. Is that so much to ask? They nit pick about the stupidest things that don't even matter. Sanchez is 24...he's not Danny Almonte in the little league WS as a 16 or 17 yr old vs. 11 yr olds. This is so frustrating.

What did they ruin with Gathers?

And Norvel and Jakarr didn't have their academics in order. That's on them. I'm not even sure (nor do I care anymore) if Norvel ever will.

My gripe with the NCAA is why did they wait so long to review Orlando and Marco.

I think he meant Garrett and not Gathers.

Yes, Garrett not Gathers. There is no excuse for taking so long with Sanchez and Marco. I wonder if there's any kind of appeal they can make to the NCAA for taking so long and inconveniencing them at the last second. It was all fine until right when the season's about to start? That's BS.

From the Daily News:

With Orlando it is related to eligibility – age and eligibility are the two things that are being evaluated,” Lavin said, referring to the 24-year-old product of the Dominican Republic who many think has NBA potential. “With Marco it’s about being reinstated - paperwork is being evaluated.”

Sanchez is considered a potential starter. But when Lavin was asked how confident he is that the forward/center will be able to play for the Johnnies, he replied, I’'ve learned after 25 year not to even get into the speculation game.”

The frustrating thing to me was that STJ was told they were fine. Hence the reason they were enrolled in classes. Now its like backtracking. Don't know how or why those things appear after the fact. Last year Amir, Karr and Pelle never enrolled because they were never cleared. That's where its different

New write-up?

I believe the article in question was written yesterday.
