These guys aren't kids anymore they are professionals that are on 1 year contracts.

Imagine you are 22 and you have companies throwing 6 to 7 figures at you to do a contract job for one year. There is no reason not to look at the offers and take the one that pays the most. You gain experience that will help you in the future no matter where you end up. You also can take some of that money and invest in trainers, dieticians etc. to improve on your own.

Yes the coach/school is a consideration and selling points. That's why the teams all have closers.

I hope that Matt gets the brand new Cadillac. Don't need anymore steak knives.

I hope he comes back but if not I hope RJ gets all he can. We do the same.

This article is great! Really captures the "new" landscape of college basketball portal decisions. If you are a key player on team with remaining eligibility, and don't commit early to returning (e.g., Zuby), the team has to (or should) effectively move on from that player, as it must begin to budget and plan for the upcoming year. Very similar to Euro basketball leagues. One year contracts are rampant.

Agree to an extent but as article says Hawkins waited and his price skyrocketed. Someone will pay big bucks for RJ late and with Repole saying we aren’t going to lose a player because of money why couldn’t that be us especially with scholarship limit going to 15. I realize Repole statement is a bit of hyperbole but I think the reason bringing back RJ late does not appear to be an option is because for whatever reason we do not really want him back (unless it was under unrealistic circumstances like RJ not testing draft waters and agreeing to our price). Heard Fanta’s take on it on NBC with Bruce Beck and he basically danced around the situation. I’m surprised I am posting this because I am actually tired of the whole situation and actually dislike visiting this thread at this point.

This seems like it could be a strategic change from last year by RP and his staff. I recall that last year RP was holding a scholarship hoping to get one of a few guys testing the NBA waters. None materialized and we got Prey mid-June. Maybe he realized the price point and the significant interest from other teams was not worth it and he decided to strike early and not wait this year.

They may also want to get a solid roster locked down before they jack up the season ticket prices, which I believe is set to happen late spring/early summer with the reseating. Gotta sell the dream.
