you guys make solid points on Fan attendance... I operate in an "SJU bubble" and assume others are just as enthused to attend games...
But one thing they- and they being those in charge at the school- should be able to Help* - is getting more students to the game.... they gotta be able to "incentivize" these college kids somehow... free meal pass / something.... all they needs is about 200 -300 kids in CA to make that place LOUD....

It’s also expensive as shit to watch a game at MSG w everything included.
Depending on my work schedule, I’ll do 5 or so games a year max. With my kids that’s 500-600 a pop w tickets, parking, food, booze, bs they want etc

Last night, I completely understand why people aren't making the trek to Carnesseca. It's really cold, Wagner's not a good team, and its a completely uncomfortable place to watch a game. Plus, unless you have a car and live in Queens/Long Island, it's really hard to get there.
But its inexcusable that students aren't going all-out this year. What are they doing on a Wednesday night!?!? Total failure by everyone.
Coaches have always chosen a few OOC games based on some relationships with the opposing coach or program.Maybe the local fans just aren’t as enamored with little Ricky as Rick is.
At this point in my opinion , fans are.not going to fill the garden unless the oppone t brings their own fans along with ours. NM won't of course. That would be a nice away game for us maybe next season.

We got 14,000 last year for Pitino's debut game at MSG against Michigan, a school with a huge fan base. To expect more than that for New Mexico is delusional, Pitino's son or not.

I thought this was a very concerning comment by him in the post game presser. He said the parents of his players are putting alot of stress on the kids.
This happens at the college level?
I know when kids are younger and in high school this is an issue. But the parents of our players are causing issues?
That is really embarrassing for the parents. These boys are adults now. Live your own life and leave your kid alone.

With NIL now... assume a lot of parents see big paydays for their kids, either here or elsewhere.

I think much of the fanbase is Mom and Popish. The students are not that interested in college basketball, with other entertainment offerings and work pursuits. Still waiting for a SJU basketball ticket to become a hot property.
That is a sports wide reality now, I don’t think that should be a surprise to anyone. Parents have been the bane of coaches in youth sports for quite a while, why would it be different where there is “real money” to be made?
I'm sure he is used to this dynamic. Maybe the portal changes things a little bit. But I'm not concerned.

St. John’s basketball head coach Rick Pitino joined Boomer and Gio on Thursday to talk about the state of NIL and pressure from players’ parents.

I listened to him on with FAN's Boomer and Gio, obviously with slow tix sales, it was kind of them to promote our game. (Gio's mom (maybe dad too) alum and fan. I think once we get rolling, Gio esp and Boomer too will jump on our bandwagon. Boomer thought about going to StJ to play Baseball, but went to Maryland for FB.
Same old saw horse, attendance is driven by alums who care (few % wise) and local BB junkies, and opposing team's fans. Zero in case of NM. Student body more concerned with paying tuition, working part time and not BB centric. BUT, CRP had to know all this when he took the job.
Pitiono was funny and direct with his statements on the show this morning. He called the StJ coaching job one of the hardest jobs out there. Student apathy and not a groundswell of Alum support (besides him mentioning Repole) and StJ is the polar OPPOSITE of other places he's been like KY and Ville (didn't say Iona).
Go listen it is a good interview.

Boomer went to school at East Islip High with two of our best baseball recruits. Bob Bellini (Half Back and centerfielder) and Hank Siemers (RB and left fielder). both were outstanding baseball players at SJU. Siemer's had the Big East Tournament of his life hitting two game winning homers to propel us to the inaugural Big East Championship in 1985. That plus some sparkling defensive plays in left field garnered him a nice signing bonus as a draft pick of the Tigers. Our football coach Bob Ricca really wanted both players to play at SJU but our baseball coach politely said no.
It has been shocking and concerning how little student support we have had. We aren't even filling up the sections behind the baskets and that is with the band in one of them.
noticed that too lol... we are cheating putting the band in one of them lol... That particular section had Students who used to heckle to opposing Bench...

Not filling up 1 tiny section behind the basket with students is mind boggling. They need to get away from their video games or whatever and show up. That section hadn’t been the same since our best student fan ever Bill B ( the sleeveless guy ) got banned when they figured out he was there for almost 20 years and was married with kids
