Redmen.com Charlotte post game mourning party

Sorry wasn't able to meet up with you guys, especially MJDinkins and Maher who I was texting. Here's a shot of my crew (me in the middle + 2 non Redmen.com members) we were all alone up in Section 219. Even though we lost this trip was well worth it

Holy shit I saw you guys. I sat 4 rows directly in front of you. Literally right in front of you. I was in the gray sju sweatshit with hat

I think the rows were empty between you and me. Iiterally 20 feet between us

Damn, that was you??? Wish I had known I would have come down. Well that sucks lol. I was waiting on Dinkins to help us escape down to the section with all of our fans but security was too tight

LOL

Yeah.... I told Room that I was headed down to section 115, as Beast said there were some openings. I got down there, and it was about as tight as gnat booty getting in that section.

I did see Shelton Jones in the lobby after the game. I also saw Lamont Middleton when me, my son, Beast, and his daughters left the arena. As, Beast said, "We could've used them last night."

Sounds like a good way to deal with the “L”, going straight back to the hotel would have sucked; celebrating a “W” would have much sweeter, you guys deserve kudos for trucking down there for the team and school, cheers!

Speaking of hotels. To make matters worse Duke Team is staying in my hotel

You should've seen some of the Duke fans in our area during their game. A few 'em probably couldn't spell "Duke." Reminded me of inbred's.

90% of duke fans are the worst human beings on earth. I actually find the long island duke fans to be worse on my hate scale than satan

My daughter's best friend from law school is a Duke alum. She is a very nice person and SJU has become her 2nd favorite team. My daughter has become a regular in the Duke circle for their viewing parties and they all root for SJU when they are not playing Duke. As a result, I can't hate Duke like others here do. In fact, I have never really hated them. I root against them because I usually root for the underdog. We have enough conference foes (and Syracuse) to hate. Makes no sense to waste too much energy on Duke.

you still drinking?

Nah actually only had 3 beers last night BUT here is a funny story. We were driving today to go to asheville which is about 2 hours away and maybe 20 minutes from asheville there is a sign on the highway for a winery and wine tastings. So Nathalie and I take a quick detour to go there and end up staying there 5 hours and now have 8 new friends and are invited by one of the couples to come down to their wedding in 2 months. Apparently down here some weddings aren't I guess as formal as up on long island.

We never made it to asheville. We just got back to charlotte now.

Tomorrow we are going to try and make it to Asheville because everyone we have met has said they have great craft beer and they all keep saying to go to some place called wicked weed beer or something like that

I have it even worse. My little sister is a Duke grad. What makes it especially bad...she was an academic advisor during the Hurley, Grant Hill, Christian Laettner era. So I had to live through those Final 4 trips, plus the beatings that we (for the most part) have taken over the years.
The only good news? She has shared some great stories. As most here have suspected, Coach Ratface is not the clean, angel that he has been portrayed as in the media. There are drunk driving arrests that were covered up. Crazy recruiting visits. Hello Chris Webber! Plus much more...
Duke is far from a model program.

Oh and the other funny thing. I swore I wouldn't wear anything SJU rest of this trip but this morning as we were about to leave the room I did a last minute switch and went back to full on SJU.

I figure I might as well do down in flames in style.

So the best part though is as we were at the winery they were filming some sort of news piece ( burntshirt winery was the place we were at ) and we got interviewed for the piece when they found out we were from new york so watch the local news tomorrow if anyone is down here still and see me with full on sju apparel repping

Luckily the owner of the vineyard is a north carolina fan and he hates duke probably more than me

We have a ton of secondary fans...probably more passionate than most of our primary fans. A lot of folks out there want to see us get back to glory. It is good for college basketball in general. Plus, we are becoming somewhat of a perennial underdog and people love that.

Dinkins?
what about dinkins ?

I was going to make a comment about marrying a sister or cousin being less formal but considering Dinkins comment about inbreeding I figured I'd let him have it. ;)

haaa. ok

Dinkins was the lucky one. He lives an hour away so he was able to get out of town right after he met up with us

Another classic Maher story! Did they send you a link to Bass Pro Shops for their wedding gift registry? That's how you know for sure if you are invited!

Great to meet you Mike and Nathalie, And of course MJDinkins & son, Jersey Shore Johnny, Beast of the East & family, Hansonbro / Sleveless Guy, SJU11 and others. At the game we met fellow poster CCNobz & son and many other loud and passionate fans.

Robert Werdann could not have been nicer (we were in a class together back in the day). I also chatted to D'Lo's grandmother for a minute. I told her we were all so proud of they way his SJU career has evolved and how much he means to the fans.

I think the players can hold their heads up, they left it all out there. Our section (115) was loud and did our best to inspire them. My voice is shot today. It was certainly a poignant moment when D'Lo left the court and again at the end when the "Thank you Seniors" chant broke out.

While we did not win, my son and I had a wonderful time. It was great to meet some of the Redmen.com family. Well worth the trip from Texas. Thanks guys.

Here is how the day started today

Here is how it ended :)

I guess you all will end up getting your reality check on Monday and stop singing Kumbyah to each other. The end of this season was not an embarrassment for the players, but as a team they either folded or were just plain worn out. You can not make it through a season and go deep being short and using very few substitutes. Glad you got to meet so many former players and the majority are great guys. Lamont Middleton is a special former player with his head in the right place.

Sounds a little like you are not happy losing our last 3 games of the season by a total of 66 points. You seem to be overlooking the fact that they upheld the St. J's tradition. That has to account for something, no? You know like a lucrative extension for the head coach who led them to the traditional finish and made the fan base oh so happy.

I once lived in South Carolina. I was invited to Christmas party and shocked when I found out that southern boys stand under the mistletoe at Christmas and wait for Granny and cousin Sue-Ellen to walk by.
