Realistic Outlook for Next Season

Why should anyone program bash when it ain’t even close to over! Its only April and every program has similar problems.

I agree.  This thread is ridiculously speculative and irrelevant so early before the season.  I wish the mods would close it and resurrect it around September when there is some semblance of a roster in place.

Oh I agree Paultz with the great Yogi B...and the proverbial 'fat lady'./media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png Just in waiting and hoping mode.

And then, I can be wrong in my prognostications--as I was with Cole that he'd be a big time scorer to take over LJ's load; or miss (as we likely all did) the impact that Wusu would have on the team.  LOL

While I'm sure that the mods appreciate your advice, the title of the thread is pretty clear, why not just avoid it?

Ahh, but what would be the fun in that when the roster's set? Now, with each move and some longed-for stud goes elsewhere the suspense and frustration are at peak levels.
Plus, it's against human nature to not opine before the 'facts' are in. /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

I won’t predict where SJU will finish in the big east because I don’t know enough about the other teams but I feel safe in saying SJU will be an improved team next season.
The new frontline players ,Nyiwe , the Purdue transfer and the recruit Stanley will provide much better defense around the rim than those who left and this was a major problem for SJU last year. They will also provide better rebounding.
Smith will turn out to be the outside shooter we all thought Cole was going to be.
And the biggest improvement will probably be next seasons Posh compared to last years. By the end of last season prior to his injury he was starting to make shots shooting off his dribble and with his quickness he will be so tough to stop when he makes his move toward the basket and stops and take fifteen ft jump shots. Based on how hard he competes I feel he will work hard all summer improving his already good game.
And there still may be additions to next years lineup.

I'm not quite 'there' yet but I like your optimism Enrght.

Hey Paultz -

By my count at the moment we have Posh, Wusu, Stef Smith, Wheeler, Pinzon, Stanley, Traore, and Nyiwe for next season.

Assuming Julian returns, how many scholarships do we have left?

And how many players are in the transfer portal to potentially fill them?

13 the limit but to me one or two less is not a big deal. I don’t know what interior players they are chasing in portal at his point, but hear they have been active with Old Dominion transfer guard Malik Curry. I also hear rumbling fwiw that the door is not shut on Greg W returning.

Woh, that’s a new development regarding Greg!  I thought you intimated that the ship had sailed on a return for him and Marcellus

LOL, every thread on a message board outside of the post game discussion thread is speculative and irrelevant. The thread discussing if a kid will choose to come to St. John's when 30+ other schools have contacted him as well is ridiculously speculative and irrelevant considering most if any aren't going to choose St. John's and a lot of them won't even be choosing a school for weeks or months.

Thought it had

Don’t know much about Curry.  His stats are good and he should stay at least two years, which is nice.  His three point shooting leaves something to be desired, but it appears to be on an upward trajectory.  The only thing I don’t like about him from the numbers is that he’s another smallish guard, which presumably could be a detriment on defense.  Paultz and others, any sense on what kind of a replacement he would make for Greg assuming Greg elects to transfer?

Patience and perspective are so important and yet difficult to cultivate. It’s one thing to think about transferring another thing to do it. It’s one thing to perceive greener pastures and then there is the reality. Period.
Like people complaining about America well go somewhere else if you want, some of we posters will help you pack.
Some young kids don’t want to play for St. John’s well, that’s fine transfer to somewhere else and play. It may work out better for you and I sincerely wish you the very best!
Imho we have a good coach, a good AD and a pro sports president. Every school has positives and negatives. I still see us heading in the right direction.
So - if you believe the grass is greener on the other college campuses? You may be correct.
Then again...
And blessings to you!

Wait we are in on Malik Curry?

he’s from my hometown lol. Although so was Mikey Dixon... I still think Curry is a real good player.

averaged 15-3-3 this season

Gawd, having GW come back to the fold would be fabulous...such a quality kid and underrated team player. Fingers crossed!
