A very well written article.
I can only speak for myself but in terms of recruiting I never ever dreamed we would be giving scholarships to or hyping up the Joey De Larosas of the world. It clearly shows has low the expectations of this schools fan base have fallen.
I am tired of the Felix Belamou hype but I firmly believe the kid would get double the rebounds per game that Joey would. And if offering something , anything to Joey in order to get Adonis , a project by everyone's standards then we have hit rock bottom.
If Joey's enrolled one would think that Adonis is a lock. Like Max, Joey was not highly ranked coming out of HS, rode the pines for one year at another lower level D! school and, I guess, is expected to fill a void. We'll see how this whole thing plays out.

Who are we playing out of the Big East next year?
We owe Syracuse a game in the Carrier Dome. Besides that plus the usual assortment of cupcakes we play, are there any major games or tournaments next year?
We need to play a better schedule than we had this year....we need to do everything we can to help ourselves when we are sitting here on Selection Sunday next year.

Besides the st johns fans being no shows, so are the seton hall fans. I was at the BET on Thursday in a section with Seton Hall fans and speaking to them they have the same complaints about their fan base. On the other hand around me in the area were hundreds of Xavier fans and Creighton fans. Someone told me Creighton sold 2000 tickets to its fan base to come to NY and I think the number is higher. It shows me Xavier and Creighton have fans that travel like (but probably not as much as) Kansas and Kentucky fans. Imagine they travel thousands of miles and st johns fans cant find the long island railroad
I don't sense grounded posters are hyping Joey D. It seems to me, based on his history, there is no reason to be overly optimistic. The best I can do is hope he, like many bigs,improves late. (Admittedly, a reach) Be patient with Adonis as well, but I think he can be a functional player in time.
I have no doubt Adonis can be a contributor some day, but next year? I just don't see him giving us 25+mins of quality ball. A lot of the promise for next season is lost if Obekpa is playing for the Erie Bayhawks. Not all of it - teams can win with small lineups, but it'll be an uphill battle.
And just another, in a long line, of disappointments.

Is Adonis similar to former Seton Hall player Luther Wright, in terms of body type ?????
Luther had to work very hard to get into shape but finally got there. Remember he had a very good game vs. Eric Montross and UNC years ago at The Meadowlands.
Unfortunately, his life after South Orange has been difficult.
Regarding SH and SJU fan support, our freshman class is almost as large as their entire school.
Years ago fraternities and sororities were a relatively big deal at St. John's and a driver of school spirit. Don't believe that is the case any longer.
Maybe we need to hire a Czar of School Spirit!

I don't remember much of Luther, but from what I know he had a higher upside. Both needed to get in shape obviously, but Luther was 7'2 no? Adonis is shorter but just as wide. And at this stage in his career Adonis isn't a hidden gem, everyone's seen him for years and years, and there really isn't a lot of demand for him. Doesn't mean he can't/won't be good. If this was 92 I think he might attract more attention, but the way the game has developed isn't conducive to his skill set. On offense I think he's fine bc he does have soft hands, but on defense big guys are asked to switch and rotate so much now that it's easy to create a mismatch or find an open guy when you have someone that slow on the court.

Luther Wright was a McDonald's All American his senior year in high school.
Adonis wouldn't make the White Castle team.

Compare that number to the number of St. John's fans that made the trip west to Denver 3 years ago. Granted, it was on 3 days notice, from selection Sunday to the following Thursday I believe it was. But still, Creighton fans did a wonderful job showing up just for the BET, when they had an assured NCAA bid to look forward to. Great job by them, and to that, what a great addition to the Big East.
