Multiple national pundits this week have recommended that St. John's should hire Pitino. PTI also calls him a top 5 current coach.

If St. John's thinks they'll receive negative press by offering Pitino, the exact opposite is true. The press will be overwhelmingly negative if they DON'T extend an offer.

I 100 percent agree the PRESS would eat it up and make SJU GOLD. The fan BASE will fill a sense of pride/excitement/caring. The players get to learn from the great pitino. Pitino has no buyout. MA buyout , SJU is selling its staten island campus. Just think of this, one : one large on SI is close to 1 mil. I graduated from the SI campus that campus is HUGE. Will definitely then be 50 million. SI is way expensive SJU knows it.

From a dollars and cents standpoint, would SJU be more profitable if CMA is dumped and paid off and Pitino hired. Where is the break even point? How many years?

That's unknowable due to the donation aspect. It might be more like months than years, depending on who can be motivated to spend on the program. Or not. If any coach, not just Pitino, but especially Pitino, actually had on the court success at SJU the ROI seems easy to envision. Big if for SJU.

Some things in life are just no brainers. Joe Oliva, Board members have not gotten anything right for this basketball program in 23 years. They should have no bearing on our next coach. Fr. Shanley call Rick and don’t take no for an answer.

We haven’t won an NCAA tourney game in over 2 decades. We haven’t played in the Big East semis in the same amount of time.

How much more do we have to endure?

I agree with this. The track record couldn't be worse. It's time to try something different.

Unlike when Iona took a chance, forgiveness for Pitino has gone mainstream. There is little to no risk in hiring him.

Go down swinging with a HOF coach (who is still getting it done) instead of going down rolling the dice on an unknown.

We’re really gonna see a time where pitino makes the most sense both from the programs on court perspective AND from the finaincial standpoint of not having to pay a buyout for him, and we still won’t give him a look. We are

I am an admirer of CMA, but if we could get Pitino WOW !!!

We are so long overdue and deserve a coach that could
totally ignite us. ALSO------remember the classic expression that
you gotta spend money to make money.

Rick will cost us nothing but give us pleasure!

Rick will have better options than SJU but I am thinking and hoping that he would have no better thrill in basketball than walking into a packed MSG with a top ten SJU team to play a similar opponent.

Like the HOF coach said himself said: "I want to do something special."

Again: He's in NY, in his 70's so he just want to settle down and just relax, on the hand he says that coaching basketball is still his passion.

To me it's just so obvious. Heck why hire a searching firm on top of paying CMA buyoff, and that's all before giving the new coach a contract.

Shit, hire me, and you won't even have to pay me, i'll volunteer.

It’s a nice thought/dream only shared by us diehards.

No doubt 75', but maybe he'd like to stay home and resurrect his hometown school as his swan song? Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.
I would love that. I’m thinking he knows this is his last chance to cash in and go on one last run for a National Championship. Yes he doesn’t need the money himself but he still helps out his wife’s family and their kids. Wife’s sister lost her husband and they also lost their brother, who Rick was very close too. Most of his nieces and nephews are doing well for themselves but this could set them up for life.

I’m sure many fans will blame St. John’s for not bringing Pitino in but in the end we really won’t have a chance. Things could change and I hope I’m wrong.
