Providence

Huge get for my Friars and the BE. When a school like PC can pull a top 30 type player from Tennessee out from the schools that were recruiting him, people take notice.

From Lindsey: "I chose them because they were recruiting me the hardest out of everybody," he told Rivals.com. "Coach Cooley is the most sincere, hardworking, dedicated family type of coach I have ever met and that's who I want to play for."

Great pickup for Providence and, of course, also great for the conference as a whole. I don't expect him to get big minutes his freshman year with Austin and Henton already in place and with more experience, but in two year Providence will have a fearsome trio with Dunn, Austin, and Linsdsey. It would be great for the conference for Providence to absolutely crush Uconn and make them an afterthought.

They have got an awfully long way to go to do that.
Kind of like St. John's has a ways to go to beat Syracuse.
We don't have to like it but it's the truth.

Post-Calhoun Uconn is vulnerable right now. Syracuse is as strong as ever and is now headlining the best basketball conference in the country while Uconn is on the island of misfit toys. Cooley is recruiting out of his mind right now, and has a tremendous young core.

We have a long way to go to get ahead of Syrcuase, but Providence is in a position to turn Uconn into "what was that other school that used to be in the Big East?"

Always respected PC for their very strong academics and also as a brother Big East school. Just as us at SJ have a big responsibility to get this thing going again and field some great teams, PC is also a team that needs to get some recognition and thrust themselves into the top 25 every so often to make the conference stronger. PC is finally getting some solid recruiting and next year they should be extremely talented. SJ and PC are sleepers (to the media at least). There's a ton of talent on our teams.

In regards to overtaking UConn in New England, that is going to take a while, not saying that PC is not making progress but UConn is a 3 time NC school, they are not going anywhere very soon, but if the BE can establish itself as a major conference, then I suspect that we will certainly cut into their dominance. They won't even play us so as to not give us any headway in that regard.

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for PC and particularly SJU to return to their old winning ways for the BE to have success. This conference shakeup is the best thing to happen for either school in the last couple of decades. PC was a national dominant program in the 60's and 70's but having Gavitt take over the commish job in the BE at the exact time that PC was slipping slightly was the worst thing for us, we had some success but was never able to maintain it because we could not keep a coach, less money, dated facilities, etc... This led to 30 years of mediocrity.

It appears that the polar opposite is happening as we begin this new venture. Facilities are top notch, Cooley is being paid $2,000,000 a year and fund raising is at an all time high. The excitement around the program is measurable and the new BE is the break that both SJU and PC needed, let's all hope we can both take advantage of it because the BE needs it.

.... and the City of Providence is a pretty nice place to attend school (thank you former Mayor Buddy Cianci).

“@JonRothstein: Not many staffs are working harder than Ed Cooley and Providence. Friars tracking both Jared Terrell and Paschal Chukwu. 2014.”

Now that he's been released from prison you can thank him personally.

I think Cooley has been smoking the same weed as Johnny girl or whatever her name is, who thinks a final 4 for us is "probable". That said, hes doing a great job recruiting.
