Providence

"RT @HoopDreamsMag: Providence just got some big news after hearing that Soph F Sidiki Johnson will be eligible Dec. 18"

Now all we need is news on Sanchez!!

I used to root for Providence to fail, but I'm now realizing that their success is important for our future because they will likely remain our brother through all this crazy realignment. So good for them getting more talented. Regarding Sanchez, he's as good as gone at this point. I really wonder if the NCAA even cares. They probably have his papers on the bottom of a big pile of their "to do" list. Makes me sick.

Don't count him as good as gone yet. Providence just heard about Sidiki. IF by some chance we get Sanchez for Big East play and beyond, we'll all likely be quite happy having him on board, even if for only 3/4 season. He could mean a solid NCAA run because we are only missing PF play and a disteibutor at this point.

Again I don't see what Providence was waiting for. Sidiki transferred after the 1st semester last year. Same deal as branch. Not thinking the NCAA just cleared him or something.

I will cheer for any of the basketball only schools against a "football" school.

Providence College's coach Ed Cooley is a nice story in the making. I hope Cooley suceeds at making Providence College a winning program. I have attended a few Providence games at " The Dunk" and came away with an appreciation of the passion which the Providence College fans have for their team. The City of Providence is now an attractive place to go to college.

Providence big man Sidiki Johnson is off the team to deal with personal problems, source told CBSSports. Johnson was also asked to leave AZ.

Could the kid transfer a 2nd time? Is that even allowed?

Sure it is but at this point he only has three years left and would have to sit 13/14 if at a new school so his playing career would be what little he's got so far from Arizona and Providence and Sept 2014-May 2016 at his new school unless he goes to a local school and gets a waiver to play next year.

I doubt NCAA would give him a waiver, regardless of if he went to a school down the street from his home.
I guess he will have 2 years left of eligibility but have to sit out next year.
Maybe Iona can in fact use another out of shape big man.
Spectators here we come!

His best bet is to go to a JUCO with his earned credits. He might even be eligible for the fall if he busts his arse in school. He'd be eligible by December if he was even an okay student and graduates. He has to be able to transfer about half the credits to some JUCO out there.

Looking for a prediction? Those who have followed Ledo throughout the past four years are familiar with the perils of trying to figure his next move, but if pressed for an answer the thought here is the Ledo declares for the Draft. Prior to the Katz story breaking, word reached me earlier this week that Ledo was leaning in that direction and the Katz news coming so soon after has this writer believing the timing may not have been so coincidental.

Again, Ledo has been unpredictable at times in the past, and a lot could transpire over the weekend, but as of Friday night the thought here is that Ledo will turn professional

Maybe he could go to Kentucky every time I look .they . gave another scholly How many could they.have to give out LOL

Friars land first big recruit for 2014

John Rooke, GoLocalProv Sports Editor

It's the first commit in what Providence head basketball coach Ed Cooley hopes is a premier recruiting class for 2014.

According to multiple sources Monday night, 6-7 forward Jalen Lindsey has decided to accept a scholarship offer from the Friars, and play for the school beginning in 2014. Lindsey is a native of Nashville, TN and has been considered a Top 30-40 national player by most recruiting services, including Scout.com.

“I thought of all the schools recruiting me that they were definitely recruiting me the hardest,” Lindsey told Scout.com. “I felt like some of the schools recruiting me were sleeping on me. I know they were showing the most love since day one.

“I know coach Cooley will give me a great chance to go to the NBA,” Lindsey added. “I trust him as a coach and I like the whole staff. I have family that lives there too.”

Lindsey will play his final year of high school basketball at Huntington Prep in West Virginia, and picked PC over offers from several schools - including Florida, Ohio State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisville, LSU, Memphis and Vanderbilt.

“I think Coach Cooley is a great person,” Lindsey said. “He’s a coach that I would love to play for. He’s that kind of person. I think the whole staff is all great people. Their families are great. I think that’s what sets them apart. They were recruiting me really hard.”

Lindsey had two visits, one official and one unofficial, to Providence College to check out the school, the campus and facilities. Obviously, he liked what he saw.

“I thought it was really nice,” he said of Providence. “It’s a really nice campus. The guys are great. They have great facilities. They are also building new stuff for the basketball program.”

Lindsey has led his high school team to two state championships, prior to his transfer to Huntington Prep. He also has Rhode Island roots, with his father, Walter, a Woonsocket native and several relatives also living in the state.

Huge get for my Friars and the BE. When a school like PC can pull a top 30 type player from Tennessee out from the schools that were recruiting him, people take notice.

From Lindsey: "I chose them because they were recruiting me the hardest out of everybody," he told Rivals.com. "Coach Cooley is the most sincere, hardworking, dedicated family type of coach I have ever met and that's who I want to play for."

Great pickup for Providence and, of course, also great for the conference as a whole. I don't expect him to get big minutes his freshman year with Austin and Henton already in place and with more experience, but in two year Providence will have a fearsome trio with Dunn, Austin, and Linsdsey. It would be great for the conference for Providence to absolutely crush Uconn and make them an afterthought.

They have got an awfully long way to go to do that.
Kind of like St. John's has a ways to go to beat Syracuse.
We don't have to like it but it's the truth.
