Not sure if anyone has noticed but the Friars have managed to put together a nice start under new coach Ed Cooley. While they don't have a real signature win so far (unless you count South Carolina), its clear that this is not the "no defense" Keno Davis Providence team. This should be an interesting match up considering both teams may have a tough time racking up wins once conference play begins.

KenPom gives St.John's a 50% chance of winning the game with the predicted score (since the computer cannot predict a tie) Providence 70 - St.John's 69.

The St.John's website indicated the game will be broadcast at 7 pm (EST) on television over the MSG network and on radio over Bloomberg 1130 AM.

I have it listed as being on MSG+.

Someone should let Council know that the BE makes the schedules before the season starts, not after a team has played 13 games.

Yeah, I thought that was a ridiculous comment too.

Evidently, tonight's game is a sellout. I have two season tickets and have been trying to get one more, but the ticket office tells me that hey have no tickets available for tonight's game. Luckily, I found a friend with an extra ticket.

Sold out? Nice. Minko did mention this morning on WFAN that it will be a full house

Was in attendance at the last game PC played. First of all even though its early Ed Cooley has done a fantastic job so far. They play hard and scrappy all game and will be a tough game for us. Like us they aren't particularly big and dont have many shooters. I think the keys to this game will be A) slowing down Vincent Council and their fast break. He is a very good and fast player and gets the ball up court in a blur. Is capable of finishing himself or making a good pass to a teammate. B) When in our zone stay on Bryce Cotton. He is really their only consistent 3 point shooter and can light it up if open. Council is a streaky shooter and Gerard Coleman will not shoot 3's. He is the one guy we need to run off the perimeter. C) Get GG & Harkless going. IMO they have no answer for them. If they play man (They played both man & zone when I saw them) they will probably put fellow freshman LeDante Henton on him who is 2/3 inches shorter. GG should be able to have a good game with his match ups. PC's big are his height and dont have the combo of speed and strength to guard him. Their best big defender is Brice Kofane and he is extremely skinny.

I hope i'm wrong but I think we'll have a tough time slowing down Council

they said there would be 5000+ for the texas pan am game. I hope their right about the sellout tonight

 Isnt the game on ESPN3?

Yes, it is on ESPN3, but subject to blackout. If you go to ESPN3 and click on the "subject to blackout" button next to the game you will get a message whether you are or not.

The house will be packed tonight after that fantasic Friars commerical on SNY featuring Santa Cooley.

Agree with Council I think its disrespectful to play any big east team on campus.

Thought there was some rule about playing a certain number of games on campus. I know in past years we have played as many as 4 when we werent drawing at the Garden. I can't recall anything less than 2 but my years only go back for the last decade.

Good point I'm not sure what the rule is but i'd like us to be able to use MSG for all big east games. Hopefully once things start going our way again this will all change

I believe the only rule is tied to minimum average capacity of the Big East schedule. Carnesecca doesn't meet the minimum so they have to have a certain number of games at MSG to reach the minimum average. Obviously with G Town, Depaul and Providence I don't think they have any games at a school owned facility so that's not a rule.

The two BE games at CA this year, Providence and DePaul would have trouble drawing 6K at MSG, so I have no problem playing 'em at CA where we at least have a big pro-Johnnie crowd. Wait 'til we get UCF, Houston and SMU, think they're gonna pack the Garden? Games like that deserve to be on campus instead of in an embarrrasingly empty Garden.

If we ever become a consistently good top 10 team we should draw no matter who we play.

Gtown plays like 1 game on campus each year (not BE)
Nova plays a couple.
I don't think Providence plays anything nor did I even know they had something on campus.
Hall plays everything at the Rock now I think.

Big East game. Longtime foe. And most important: most folks are off this week and can get out to campus on a weekday night.
