Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

After reading the article again, I'm not really sure what Zach is talking about. He's complaining about almost 13k at MSG for a game against Fordham??? That's a bad number?? The UBS and Barclay experiments were a failure. That's not on the fans. Let's compare apples to apples: what do we draw at MSG, and only MSG, against UCONN, Nova, Georgetown, etc.

Did we even play PC at MSG under Mullin? weak article and arquement by Zach if you ask me. Read like a "filler" story.
You have to mention the “ Cooley factor ,” when talking about playing PC at CA . Ed was so beserk about playing there , it became a must game there .
Now with Cooley at G’Town , we should drop them from MSG and play the Hoyas at CA . It’s fun to see him seething !

Besides adding PC to the Garden is questionable . They don’t have the Metro Alums like some of the other BE schools or , fanatics from Storrs . Keep them at CA with De Paul, Butler and G town in the future .

Marquette , Creighton , Nova , Xavier , SH and after next year , UCOnn.

Get some more big time OOC schools to come in and play the Garden . Kansas , Indiana , Gonzaga , NC , Duke , Purdue , Tenn, etc

While Creighton , Marquette Xavier are not the traditional BE draws that the Charter schools are , they are usually very good teams and playing them at MSG will result in more Nationally televised games .

And ,that will result in more fans at the MSG games . Put ST Johns in position to win the BE , become a high ranking team and decent performance in NCAA appearances and NY fans will turn out .

Plus , many posters here have complaints about Games included in the Season Package . That has to be fixed too .

Wow. Eric's page count just got blasted. Tough way to start the day

Now there's an Attendance thread - link here.

Shows how few game-related posts there actually were on this thread, I suppose.

First we need to confirm you are not a closet Providence fan and in fact one of us.

Who was your favorite player during the Steve Lavin era and why?

Haha I am a huge fan going way back. I read the board all the time! If you need to know Sir Dominic Pointer. Anyway I was told those tickets are off the table anyone else have another free one haha?

Mentioned this on the spaces preview last night but one of the reasons why I think St. John's has a big edge tonight is the major question mark for Providence in regards to scoring. 3 of Providence’s 4 losses, they have been held to 60 points or fewer. And that was with Hopkins for 2.5 of those games. SJU’s defense has been coming a long nicely holding opponents on average to 68 ppg during their 5-1 stretch the last 6 games.

Josh Oduro and Devin Carter will be looked upon to carry Providence. Carter is the best defensive guard in the Big East IMO, and he’s got the offense now that’s making him look like all big east guard 16.9 ppg 8.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.4 steals, 1.2 blk, and shooting 39% from 3. I assume Jenkins or Alleyne will have him on assignment. Oduro has been solid for Providence and will be an interesting match up, but he's had his best games this season against teams with either no bigs or nothing special in the paint to prevent resistance. Not the case with Joel given how good he's been overall this season but specifically the leap he's taken defensively.

With Devin Carter, St. John’s could treat it like DJ Davis when they played Butler and allowed him to get his points but held everyone else in check. So the big question for PC is who will be the secondary or even tertiary scorer without Hopkins? IF you want to be optimistic and cheeky and say Oduro and Carter get 40 combined...where is the other 30-40 pts coming from with PC?

Ticket Gaines has shown he can score but is hot and cold, averaging 8ppg, Jayden Pierre is a guard from NJ who played at LuHi, who can score a bit but like Gaines has been inconsistent.

With the Ledlum news that he's going to be a go tonight, Luis' minutes restriction lifted, and the way this team has been trending, give me the Johnnies by double digits.

I think St. John's loses the spread but wins by 6.

Carter is a great test for our guards to see if they've improved with quick, athletic guards who are aggressive in getting to the paint.
