Providence Game

Winning these next two on the road would be quite a response and tell us all we need to know about the resolve of this team and the direction it will head.

The key to this game is simple...limit Providence on the offensive glass. Despite what is posted on this site, Cooley is not a very good in-game coach, but we can't expect to win on the road if we give them 15 extra chances to score after they miss.

why's he not a very good in game coach?

If true, wouldn't that be a wash on that factor? Lav is not exactly a "Maestro" in that regard.

right, even though he likes to talk about John Wooden, he definitely is not John Wooden lol

Cooley has had his share of in-game coaching blunders...he's not up for any awards. Last years home game against Providence (2 OTs if I remember) seemed like a battle of poor decisions between the two coaches.
We'll see if Providence is smart enough to focus on getting CO in foul trouble right from the tip.

somebody likes him. :)

@kmattio: Billy Donovan, Ed Cooley and Sean Miller will head USA Basketball’s U19 team this summer.http://t.co/9qNeh4cly7

Providence puts out a legitimate sized, skilled BE TEAM, with good balance from the 5 starters.. we get no meaningful offense from CO, BRANCH

and of late, Pointer and Jordan..

We are undersized against them and nearly all BE TEAMS.. They are defending their homecourt.

Rooting for a win is what being a fan is about.. But, our team is undermanned and truthfully underskilled against most BE opponents.. Are those obstacles easily overcome? No.

DLO can't carry this team unless he scores 35-40 a game. Jordan has been nothing remotely deserving of his HS REP and questionable NBA skills. He has a poor jumper and misses a lot of his athletic drives to the basket. not finishing like Raftery says. And, he is a inconsistent free throw shooter. And, I haven't even gotten to his attitude yet.

This is a very tough game to win.

So you are saying we got a chance!

Of Course, on any given Tuesday or Wednesday anything can happen in the BE.. And, we are overdue for a win. We haven't won a game this year..It is what makes this league what it is. A war every game, home or away. :)

Interestingly enough Cooley does not start Harris. He did spark last weeks game however. One good thing though is Cotton is no longer on the team.

For reference, PC is 12-0 when they hold the opposing team to 66 points or less. They are 1-4 when they score more with the one win being against Notre Dame when ND scored 74.

FriarJ, thanks for the info and I know you probably have not seen us play so here are some scouting pointers to pass along to Coach Cooley:

1. Don't try to get the guy with the short-shorts into foul trouble because his back-up has frightening speed and is deadly in the paint.
2. No need to guard the dude with all the tats. He can't shoot a lick. Just ignore him.
3. We have a really really deep bench, so don't go crazy running around or try to get us in foul trouble. Play a nice slow game. Walk the ball up the court. If we start bring in our bench guys, you are toast.
4. Under no circumstances attempt a 3. We defend 3's with our lives. You will fail. Miserably.

I really do not want to divulge any more secrets but Mr Cooley seems like a nice man and this should prove helpful to you and the other Friar faithful. Good luck.

I think we will be held under 66 but I still think SJU pulls out a win. It will be a low scoring affair, the game comes down to how providence shoots from 3 and also how well rysheed Jordan plays.

Casertas Pizza...the best in town in Providence.

This is one of my favorite road trips of all of the ones i have been on....cannot go because it is a work night but the next time we play them on a weekend i am there.

I knew Jack Kennedy. And you sir, are no Jack Kennedy.

@UndercoverFriar: Providence is favored by 4 points vs St. John's. Friars are determined to start 4-1. #pcbb
