Providence game thread

In the second half tonight, Harkless did one of two things.

He either took the ball from around the foul line, took his man 1-on-1, and jammed it home. Or, he was open from just behind the three-point line, and buried the triple. Providence really had no answer for him.

I can't wait to see him play next year, when hopefully, he can play his more natural small forward position. He may have the dangerous combination of being to tall for small forwards to guard, and too quick for some power forwards to guard.

dwight hardy was at the game tonight.

Large number of Redmen players here tonight. Wally Szcerbiak was there with his Dad, and wasn't announced. Classy guy - signed autographs all game without complaining, and wasn't mobbed. Good guy - LI guy - who came back here now that his career is over. Just moved form Manhasset to Lloyd Harbor, a few miles from his home digs.

Mo smooth as silk. DH plays with alot of heart. Great job done by all tonight and best thing was keeping up the intensity level and playing fearlessly and with confidence. Keep it up guys and this will be an exciting fun season afterall.

Nice side tab/title for Harkless on sportscenter. the second time around the tab on the sidebar read "More than Iverson" and the clip featured Harkless passing Iverson and Murphy for the most points in a BE debut. Way to Harkless. Here to FOUR more years of this

Please tell me someone saw Ed Cooley literally stare me down for about 20 seconds during a timeout with about 7 minutes left in the 2nd half. As they gathered for a huddle I yelled at Council "this is why you guys play here and not MSG." For whatever reason that must have just set off Cooley. It was hilarious   :silly:

I was at the game last night there were two players in SJU warmups who didnt sit on the bench they stood the entire game on the sidelines at the end of the bench they would join the huddle on timeouts though. I was wondering if perhaps these were guys who werent officially part of the team yet anybody know what was up with that?

But you have to give St. John’s a lot of credit; they did a great job. They were excited to play. I thought the crowd was fantastic and they were really into it. This isn’t a place where I enjoy playing.”

I was at the game. Just fantastic!
Great win. Harkless and Harrison were unreal.
Just wish we had 1 more guy.........
I will take the win and run!

I thought I heard you yell, "Why are you guys are gay here and not MSG?"

Pleasant surprise to walk into a sold out Carnesecca Arena - it makes you wish more Big East games were on campus. Clearly there was a buzz that isn't present at MSG since we can't sell out MSG period, and never have more than 70% SJU fans and sometimes far less.

This game was a Christmas plum to be savored. I was in the vast minority that thought the team showed signs of improvement in the UTPA game, even if they barely escaped with a W. This will still be a rough season, but there will be several bright spots and maybe one or two upsets.

The astounding thing to me so far is that they are able to stay out of foul trouble. To play that disciplined when playing 35 minutes is a testimony to coaching and conditioning. With 7 guys, to have a chance to win, we cannot afford foul trouble and this team is doing a good job avoiding dumb fouls.

Harkness was so unstoppable, I'd have to say that a horrible mismatch and bad defense was partially responsible. He was simply quicker, more explosive to the basket than anyone guarding him.

This is a team that likes to pass.

The negatives.. When you run the break on a wing, #1 you don't stop running because to want to square up in the corner or on a wing, and 2) you bust your ass to get ahead of the ball and curl to the basket. 3) Harrison made one or two mistakes in this regard, and once passed up a 2 on 1 opportunity to take it to the hole to try to bury a 3 - mistake.

Dont know who they are but they've been there all year

Since I wasn't there would like to know how the other players did like Amir,Greene,GG etc

Ha! Good for you. I was thinking the very same thing but being way over on the other side, I don't think Cooley would have heard me yell.

Last night was a rather shocking welcome to Cooley to Big East play. ;)

“Our defense made us play better offense,” Harrison said. “It all started on the defensive end. The scoring was on the fast break and that makes it easy.”

Bingo.

Great line!

Best game we've played to date by far
Great to see everybody sharing the ball
Harrison was on fire
Harkless remindes me of Keith (Jamal) Wilkes - so silky smooth
Garrett played extremely well considering that he's only been here a week - some really neat passes
Glad to see the enthusiasm and marked improvement
On any given day, we have the potential to give anybody fits
If we only had a little more depth.......
BTW, I found it interesting to hear Coach Lav call himself the team's "General Manager" in the pre-game clip
Can't wait to see this group mesh with next year's recruits with a full season under their belts

Agreen about the smoothness. But the Bruin he remind me most of is Marques Johnson.
