Providence game thread

Wow wow wee wa... how about them apples? .486 FG shooting? 14 of 18 from the line? Great #s. Huge improvement from early on when FT shooting was poor. Great start to BE.

Best game we've played to date by far
Great to see everybody sharing the ball
Harrison was on fire
Harkless remindes me of Keith (Jamal) Wilkes - so silky smooth
Garrett played extremely well considering that he's only been here a week - some really neat passes
Glad to see the enthusiasm and marked improvement
On any given day, we have the potential to give anybody fits
If we only had a little more depth.......
BTW, I found it interesting to hear Coach Lav call himself the team's "General Manager" in the pre-game clip
Can't wait to see this group mesh with next year's recruits with a full season under their belts

Had the same thought about Harkless while watching him. His game, like Jamal/Keith Wilke's (CR Green, your input would be welcomed): sweet, seemingly effortless, and ... well, silky smooth.

Soooo glad he's here and not at UConn. We haven't had someone like him since Malik Sealy. Just an absolute joy to watch.

Congrats to everyone on this very undermanned team on a great big east win.
What a way to start the big east season and congrats to mo harmless the man who started our great recruiting clAss.

Great start to the BE schedule, Mo was an absolute beast!

Nice to see Hardy get a well deserved hand at halftime.

Love watching these guys in transition, plenty of easy hoops in the 2nd half

Wow.

Where did that come from?

Remember how important it was winning at WVU last December to start the BE season?

Moe Harkless just set the Big East record for points in a debut...Troy Murphy previously held the record with 30 against Providence in 1999. Congrats!

Mark was also shared by Allen Iverson

“Our kids were pathetic today in every way,” Cooley said. “Every wart re-emerged. We were very selfish. We just weren’t tough and when you’re not tough and show that passion to compete, that’s very sad to see. We were coming along but played a team that wanted it more.”

“Defense? That was awful,” he said. “I promise you we will correct that attitude. That was the worst defensive game I ever coached and that will be emphatically addressed at 6 a.m. tomorrow.”

“He is terrific, a great player, a very, very good player,” Cooley said of Harkless. “He’s definitely a face of the Big East and he will go down as one of St. John’s best players.”

“Carnesecca can be a little hornets’ nest when you pack it,” Dunlap said, referring to the sellout crowd of 5,602. “It has its own advantages and it really helped us energy-wise, especially in the second half.”

It seems like Lavin uses the pre BE games as exhibition games and emphasizes learning more than Ws.They played like a different team today.

Just got home.

We smoked 'em. It was a trashing and they were 11-2.

Our defense was ridiculous.

Mo looked as smooth as silk out there and scored at will. First game in which he really imposed his will. Kept looking owards the basket with the intent of shooting = just what we hoped he would do

An encore against UCONN?

Harrison makes things happen and uses his body under the basket to get the shot away and draw a foul.

Icing on the cake for me? An extended discussion with doc butler. That man's a walking encycopedia of Johnny folklore.

By far and away the best weve looked all year and a real pleasant surprise as I really had no confidence heading into this game. Looking at the box score a couple of things besides Harkless complete domination struck me. 1 good 1 bad. Harrison 7 assists 0 turnovers and Pointer 0 rebounds in 31 minutes.

i love that harkless with his 32 points has the new big east record for freshmen debuts.

allen iverson and troy murphy had 30 in their debuts.

I was speed reading to get a handle on all of this, as I couldn't see the game, and was so stoked that we dominated a BE team after the inconsistent start we have had. In the rush I read your first sentence as the "best weave all year" and had flashbacks to the Redmen "Black Ages" we lived through before the Renaissance we are in began.

Great job gentlemen. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next four years watching you grow.
